A lot of words are auld Scots words and I'd be lying if said I knew what all of them meant.

These verses are used to 'address the haggis' on Burns night every year in January.

Wonderful Gavin, thanks and welcome to LibriVox! Next time, make sure you post your poems in this thread (hint: click "post reply" NOT "new topic") and read the first post carefully for instructions on how to add ID3 tags.

I found the poem on Bartleby so it is indeed in the public domain: http://www.bartleby.com/6/147.html

Do you want your website linked to from the catalog page?
sorry about that! I did mean to post it in this thread, I didnt realise I'd posted it as a new thread until it was too late.

Glad you enjoyed it, I will be posting more in the near future. probably more Burns poetry and I might try my hand at a Walter Scott short story at some point.

and yes, its ok to link to my site from the catalog page.

Hey LibraryLady,

Thanks, I will. Question, though: Casey At The Bat I got from some anonymous web site because Project Gutenberg didn't have it but, according to Wikipedia, it was published in 1888. Is this kosher?

-SJ
Yup! I found it on Poets' Corner here: http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/thayer01.html which is one of my three preferred sources (others being Gutenberg and Bartleby) for poetry. So you're all set to go! :)

No worries, I know that can be confusing at first. Thanks for the info and I look forward to hearing more of that lovely Scottish accent!

Annie

I have recorded some poems from Hilaire Belloc's Cautionary Tales - I was surprised and delighted to find eleven of his poems at Poets' Corner:
http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/poem-ab.html#belloc and so got carried away and recorded them all.

They are all quite short and have Valuable Advice For Young People, but may go over your quota for weekly poetry - I have set the ID3 tags for weekly poetry 13 but if you want to do anything else with them I can change that

They are on my site at:

Martin,

Wow, this is wonderful! I do think it would be nice to include them all in one collection though, so if you don't mind I'll hold on to them and put them in 14 if that's okay. No need to change the tags yourself, I can do that easily enough of my end. Thanks! :)

Hi Glen,

First of all, you have done a fabulous job with the voices on all three of these! Now for the nitpicky stuff:
  • Next time please post links to your sources.
  • The Service poem is longer than five minutes, please submit it to the long poems collection here: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3156
  • On all three poems your bit rate is set to 56 when it should be 128 and your sample rate is set to 22 when it should be 44. I can fix it for the two for this collection but you may want to fix it yourself for the Service poem before submitting it to the long poems collection. Do you use Audacity? You'll just want to change your default settings and this won't be an issue in the future.
  • Do you want your website linked to from the catalog?
Okay, I think that is everything! Sorry to bombard you with that stuff but you're off to a great start, you've got the reading and recording down, the technical stuff will be a piece of cake. ;)

Hey LL,

Okay, first off, thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought I got that stuff down. I'll send the Service poem over to the other collection then. The Thayer poem is at http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/thayer01.html. The other two are at Project Gutenburg - Carroll: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/12 - Service: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/207.

I use Cool Edit Pro for my recording. I just found the sample rate on here, so I'll fix the Service poem before I send it over. Also, I can't seem to find where I find out what the bit rate is (I assumed it was set at 128). Maybe someone with knowledge of this can help me?

EDIT: Found it. You set the bitrate when you save it. Thanks anyway.

Hmm, I'm not familiar with Cool Edit Pro. I suggest you post in the Need Help? forum and I'm sure someone will be along to help you out in no time.

So, how about that website, want it linked to? :D

Hey LL,

Thanks for fixing the other two for me. I decided to just put my email address for now as I'm not sure how long my blog is gonna last at this point.
