The Pursuit of the House-Boat by John Kendrick Bangs.
This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-pursuit-of-the-house-boat-by-john-kendrick-bangs/
This sequel to Bangs' A House-Boat on the Styx continues the "thought-experiment" of bringing various historical and fictional figures together, detailing the adventures of the ladies of Hades after they are kidnapped by pirates and the attempts of the Associated Shades (led by Sherlock Holmes) to retrieve their house-boat. (Introduction by unfamiliar memory)
  • Target completion date: February 1, 2012
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3169
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): Standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

    MAGIC WINDOW:

    (Admin link)
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "Chapter [number] of The Pursuit of the House-Boat. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"[
    • Say:
"The Pursuit of the House-Boat, by John Kendrick Bangs. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Pursuit of the House-Boat by John Kendrick Bangs. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain.
    • Say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of [Chapter]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Pursuit of the House-Boat, by John Kendrick Bangs."
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
  • Example filename
    pursuitofthehouseboat_##_bangs.mp3
  • Example ID3 V2 tags
Title: 01 - The Associated Shades Take Action
    Artist: John Kendrick Bangs
Album: The Pursuit of the House-Boat
  • Instructions for soloist: transfer of files (completed recordings)

OK UM,
I made the Magic Window for you, but you are not yet ready to start.
All the fields under the MW are not yet ready. You will have to decide what the ID3-tag will look like and how the filename will be.
The DPL will need that to check your files.

That's odd -- I edited in the filename format and the sample ID tag, and the changes show up for me.

Oh wait, I see what you mean.
You edited the 'Example filename' and the 'Example ID3 V2 tags'. I see that now.
You also have to edit 'The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:'
I forgot to mention that. It's also important for a DPL.

It's perfect.
Let's wait for a DPL to come forward.
In the meantime feel free to start recording!

Do you already have a password for the MW Emma?
In a solo, you are your own BC, and you can keep up your own MW.

I will PL chapter 1. I kind of talked unfamiliar memory into reading this, so I feel responsible :D If I understand your English fine (some accents cause me problems) I'll DPL .

Well, I won't DPL, not because of your reading, but because my English is too bad, I'd have to follow with the text, sorry.
Chapter 1: there are some notes in the MW. Great job at differentiating the voices, but be careful, there are a lot of thumps and the like like you're moving the mic or something while you speak. Also, it is a bit too quiet. There are a few things more, see in the MW.
