Arielle,

I'd be happy to take the vacant role of "Mr. Praed."

I've been dying to take on Shaw for a long time. My mother was Liza in Pygmalion, so I feel I ought to continue the family legacy.

Best,

Robert

It occurs to me that the current book summary gives away the whole plot and the ending of the play pretty flagrantly. Let's change it to the following:

"The story centers on the relationship between Mrs Kitty Warren, a rich woman, described by the author as "on the whole, a genial and fairly presentable old blackguard of a woman" and her daughter, Vivie. Mrs Warren is a middle-aged woman whose Cambridge-educated daughter, Vivie, is horrified to discover the sinister way her mother acquired her fortune."

The summary sounds good to me, apart from applying the adjective "sinister" to Mrs. Warren's profession - is that a bit much? Perhaps "questionable" or something a bit more forgiving? Or am I just taking Mrs. Warren's side too much? :)

LOL. Maybe just a little, but how about "morally questionable"?

Don't you think that it's rather important that the audience/listener knows just what Mrs Warren'ss profession is? Without that the first act (Vivie's chats with Praed & Croft) loses a lot of it's force. I don't know about the first performance, but certainly every audience afterwards has known. Actually they'd have to be pretty thick not to guess from the title!
I agree that the summary id perhaps too revealing about the end though.

I guess my thought was that Mrs. Warren's profession is actually a "reveal" in the script, not something you're intended to know going in. I can see how that would be taken as a spoiler by someone who didn't know it going in--on the other hand, I can see how that first conversation might be confusing if one didn't have that knowledge. I'm happy for others to weigh in on this--I could go either way.
