Blottentots and How to Make Them by John Prosper Carmel ( -).

This project is now complete. The one and only audio file may be downloaded from http://librivox.org/blottentots-by-john-prosper-carmel/
This is ridiculously short for a stand-alone project, but it is a very visual little book, and would be even more nonsensical without a cover picture to give the listener an idea of what a blottentot actually looks like if he doesn't have access to the text.

Written years before Rorschach developed his psychological inkblot tests, the book consists of very many short verses: the first of them give instructions on how to make a blottentot, and the rest each describe a particular creature made by a blot of ink on a piece of paper, which is then folded and pressed to spread out the ink into peculiar shapes. I'm sure it could also be done (and more colourfully) using thin paint, and it looks a lot of fun for children.

The author John Prosper Carmel is believed to be a pseudonym of Raymond Carter, who was the calligrapher. (Ruth Golding)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/44898
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

 Delightful, Ruth!

You might wish to add 'A' to the title Gobble Me Up (01:48) in keeping with other titles including A.
Otherwise PL OK :)

Must dash - where's that bottle of ink and paper?

It's a bit tempting, isn't it?

Thank you, Carol. I have fixed that - must have carefully edited it out  . (I don't think there's any need to listen again.)
