Thank you Jonathan and Florence. I have added you both to the magic window - apologies for the delay.

Here is my recording of Dewey.... Section 08, Chapter 8: Aims in Education
URL: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/cm/democracyandeducation_08_dewey.mp3
Duration: 31:01
(I left 10 seconds at the end.)
Here are errors:
at 7:24.7- 7:24.9 Substitution: when/where
at 14:13.7-14:14.4 Substitution: continually/constantly
I thought the error sounded better than the correction so I kept the error.

Thanks Florence.
I've updated the Magic Window, although you may not be able to see it at the moment due to some technical issues.

I'd be happy to record Chapter 9. I'd like a little assurance that Chapter 8 is PL OK first however. Also, I'd appreciate that Google availability thing. But not necessary.

Hi Florence. Sorry for the delay in replying.
We don't have any absolute rule at LibriVox with regards to audio, but your recording is obviously pretty distorted. This is "clipping", meaning that the volume was turned up too high during your recording. I've tried seeing if I can fix this, but I've not been able to.
If your microphone has a volume (or gain) control, this could have been turned up too high. Or it could be the input volume slider in Audacity or the microphone volume setting in Windows (assuming you are using Audacity and Windows - if not, then there will be equivalent controls in whatever you are using).
Hope that helps, but please let me know if not, or if you try it and the problem is still there.
Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by the Google thing.
Cheers,
Carl.

Carl,
I would like to read Chapter 9 if it is still available. Thanks, Suzanne Nash (aka detroitreads)

I am going to do Section 8 again--Aims in Eduction. It will be pretty easy. i'd be mortified to have that distorted recording in the collection.
I don't know how it happened but it won't again.
I'm back from Machu Picchu with many resources of mind and imagination.

Hello. I would like to read chapter 22 - The Individual and the World. This will be my first volunteer assignment for LibriVox. I will read under the name of jtmartinsen. There is no link to a blog or other website. I look forward to helping out should I receive the assignment. I did record a one minute test that is currently in the new volunteers forum.
With Thanks,
jtmartinsen

here is a do over of chapter 8: Aims in Education:
URL: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/cm/democracyandeducation_08_dewey.mp3
Duration: 29:58 which includes 10 seconds at the end.
I saw the bit about the first disaster renamed but I got a new URL with hope or assurance that my first recording would be totally obliterated.

Thanks Florence. Just so you know, your original recording will still be on the server until the project is completed, at which point it will be erased. We do it like that because sometimes people upload a second version they didn't mean to. However, it will have had its filename changed to something that is not publicly available. Only an admin can access it, and even then they have to do it deliberately.fshort wrote:here is a do over of chapter 8: Aims in Education:
