Prime Numbers

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

After seeing projects with Pi and Phi I thought that I would like to start a project with prime numbers.

A list of them can be found at
http://primes.utm.edu/lists/small/millions/
Sections of 40 numbers at a time labeled with a four letter identification "number." ex. aaaa are posted on the wiki here
You can claim as many sections as you would like, and at the end of 1000 numbers they will be edited together into single files.

BEFORE recording:

Set your recording software to:
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
Mono

DURING recording:
The Intro and Outro will be taken care of on my end, so for this project you need only read:

FIRST - Your name as (and if) you wish it to appear in the disclaimer section, optionally including location and/or personal URL. These will all be edited together into a list preceding the number sequence. If you claim multiple sections within a given thousand numbers, you need only record this on the first.

SECOND - The four-letter designation of your section. PLEASE be sure to read this before EVERY section, even if you claim and read more than one together.

THIRD - The 40 numbers in your section. Take it easy and read the numbers clearly, and leave a little breath-pause in between numbers. When you're finished, PLEASE double-check your reading for accuracy!

And that's it; as I said, I'll take care of the rest.

AFTER recording:
Save files as
128 kbps MP3
prime_####.mp3 , all lower-case, where #### is the four blue letters. (If combining multiple sections into one mp3, just name it after the first one; for example, a single file containing sections aaac through aaae should be named "prime_aaac.mp3")

ID3 V2 tags
Not important; I'll take care of them in the editing phase.

Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

Make sure to have fun with your recordings but don't be silly. I know that it can seem a little boring recording random numbers (And as far as we know prime numbers are random). :o

My initial thoughts were to do something along the line of the Phi project. Something like this:

aaaa 2 3 5 7 11 13 17 19 23 29 31 37 41 43 47 53 59 61 67 71 73 79 83 89 97 101 103 107 109 113 127 131 137 139 149 151 157 163 167 173

(Sorry about the odd formatting. I couldn't get it to line up in columns like I wanted.)

Each person would claim a group that would I would post. Does this seem like too many numbers, too few? I like the idea of using the 4 letters for naming the sections. At the end (of a set number) I would edit them all together. Also I was thinking about setting some sort of number staying pattern for the larger numbers, as they could get a little unruly. Give me some feed back and I will put an official set of guidelines in the first post.

Here is the first one aaaa. This is the pattern that I would like everyone to follow if they could to make it easier to edit. Also if someone could put it on a permanent web space, so others could see how to do it after the link has expired, I would appreciate it as I have none of my own. :cry:

You are one fast working guy ab2525. I've got all of your files and they sound good from on a quick listen.

I noticed that you might want to move your mike a little farther from your mouth to reduce the breathing noise. The quality sounds excellent though. You might want to go back and edit out any mistakes. I noticed in the first one that you just stumbled a bit on one of the numbers. I can fix it but I just thought that you might want to know.

I saw when I started downloading your files that I can't even stick to my own naming scheme. I forgot to put the "prime_" part on the first file.:oops:

I love the enthusiasm that you have and hope that you can keep it up. Best of luck.

PS This is looking like it might turn into a solo project with me at the beginning (I just saw you commitment for aaag-aaap as I was writing this). But hey, that's cool with me. :D

Got aaag. It sounds like you did better with not breathing on the microphone. I don't want to sound overly picky but if you could repeat numbers that you stumble on and then edit out the mistake it would give your work a little more of a smooth flow. I don't think it would be that much work. Keep up the good work.

...alternativly, if you don't feel like editing and/or proof-listening, you can post your stuff and ask for volunteer help in editing and proof-listenting.
There is a forum just for that.

But, you know, a bit of error-editing of the raw recordings is kindly asked from all volunteers, and the proof-listening stage is more like an error-proof, so nothing like a repeated phrases or something slips into the final upload.

Yup - keep up the speed and spirit. :D
