This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/institutio-oratoria-volume-1-by-marcus-fabius-quintilianus/
Institutio Oratoria (On the Education of an Orator), volume 1, by Quintilian . Translated by H.E.Butler.
Marcus Fabius Quintilianus was of Spanish origin, being born about 35 A.D. at Calagurris. At Rome he met with great success as a teacher and was the first rhetorician to set up a genuine public school and to receive a salary from the State. He left behind him a treatise "On the causes of the decadence of Roman oratory" (De causis corruptae eloquentiae), some speeches and his magnum opus, the only one to survive to our days. His Institutio Oratoria, despite the fact that much of it is highly technical, has still much that is of interest to‑day, even for those who care little for the history of rhetoric. (Summary adapted from the translator's preface) This first volume covers books 1 to 3.
- Target completion date: May 03rd 2012
- Text source (only read from this text!): http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Quintilian/Institutio_Oratoria/home.html
- Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): Standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

Hi, dabbler.
The first two sections are being edited; however, a question: as you can see from the first post, I can't make up my mind if I use the Latin title or the translation. :S What do you think?

Finally, I managed to come back to my project.
I uploaded a corrected version of section 03, and the brand new section 05.
Funny story: I had recorded section 05 a while ago, hadn't managed to edit. Yesterday, when I found some time to edit, I started listening to the section and suddenly realized there was something strange: the subject I was reading about didn't match the subject of the section on the index. Surprise, surprise: I had recorded chapter four of book TWO! Which means: I had to record section 05 yesterday, but now I have section twelve already recorded.
