Coffee Break Collection 002 - Multi-Faith.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/coffee-break-collection-002/
This is a collection of short (15 minute or less readings) works in English suitable for a coffee break at work or a short commuter ride. The theme for this collection is Multi-Faith in various genres.(Summary by BellonaTimes)
  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, use the below links to Project Gutenberg's Religion Bookshelf as a basic source (for beginners on LV); those who have been here longer will know how to deep-search Project Gutenberg and other public domain sites for material. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: December 24, 2009 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. Please note that if we haven't heard from you for two months, your section(s) will automatically be re-opened for other readers. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
    Suggested source:

  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:

    Channels: 1 (Mono)
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
    Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
Please leave no more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of your recording!

Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "[Story title] by [Author name], recorded for LibriVox Coffee Break Collection, volume 2 - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by [your name]"
    • Say:
      "[Story title] by [Author name]."
    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      “End of [Story Title]"
      [/i]
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording:
    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity (Mac/Win) has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    coffeebreak002_titleinoneword_authorsurname_readersinitials.mp3, e.g. coffeebreak002_texasweek_hemhuter_yy.mp3

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/What_is_ID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

Title/Name: [Story Title] (e.g. Texas Week)
    Artist: [Author Name] (e.g. Hemhuter)
Album: LibriVox Coffee Break Collection Vol. 002

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader (when your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread):
      http://upload.librivox.org
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: arb - annise
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.
Any questions?
Please post below or PM me. :)

I'll MC this for you Bellona - but there are a few things I don't qiuite understand

You say
o find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please).
Then you put a list of suggestions ?
Are you going to 1. expect people to read your choice of ten bits that are already in the window?

Or 2. let them choose something and submit it

My feeling is you want 2. in which case your how to claim needs editing .

I won't set it up till I'm clear as it will make a difference to file names etc

Sorry, Anne. I have updated the template to be more accurate. And thanks for taking this on. A couple of folks have expressed interest already.

I forgot to add that prayers are welcome too. Something from each culture. And for this initial collection, I'm requesting that all entries be in English. Someone could concurrently do one in Multilingual format: Latin, French, Farsi, Mandarin, German, Hebrew, Spanish, etc :)

Fellowship Prayers (1918, 2nd Edition 1921) Author: Sarah Truslow Dickinson Publisher: Womans Press

O GOD, the Father of the forsaken, the help of
the weak, the supplier of the needy, who hast
diffused and proportioned thy gifts to body and soul,
in such sort that all may acknowledge and perform the
joyous duty of mutual service ; wha teachest us that
love towards the race of men is the bond of perfect-
ness, and the imitation of thy blessed self; open our
eyes and touch our hearts, that we may see and do,
both for this world and for that which is to come, the
things which belong to our peace. Strengthen us in
the work we have undertaken; give us counsel and
wisdom, perseverance, faith and zeal, and in thine own
good time, and according to thy pleasure, prosper the
issue. Pour into us a spirit of humility ; let nothing be
done but in devout obedience to thy will, and thank-
fulness for thine unspeakable mercies. . . . Amen.*

I've altered the title and summary a little to be more specific; not sure why folks are so reluctant to contribute to this one. I chose the Big Six because I wanted religions that had been in place 1000 years ago. I also wanted something that, say, the United Nations would include in their audio library, along with our Universal Declaration set.

I'm sure it's the restriction on the fire and brimstone

I would LOVE to contribute to this one, but you ain't gonna like it: The parable at the beginning is about 2200 words, that would fit nicely.

But maybe its better to wait for the first 'Atheism' coffeebreak

EDIT: And besides, Atheism is not a 'faith'.

Cheers,
Ava.

If you can fit it into the 15 minute and under limit, Soupy, go for it. Sounds interesting.

Availle, by all means, I don't hold the patent on the Coffee Break concept so be my guest. Atheism is not my cup of tea, despite what some may think.

Whoa, buddy! That file name is way too long. Needs shortening to say virtuesofabstinence ; otherwise I don't think I can add it to the window.

What say you, Anne?
