Chapter 17 now ready for PL. Matt's kindly going to PL many of these in one go in the next few days.

And Chapter 19 now also ready for PL :-)

To confirm, these are my remaining tasks:

* Finish Chapter 20.
* Finish Chapter 21 -- including assembling end credits.
* Then check for 5sec of silence at the end of previous chapters -- I've realised that it's a mixed bag at the moment.
* Add in the missing narrator's line in Chapter 5 (I hadn't highlighted it in the original script, so Sam's hoping to record that this week).
* Make any PL fixes that Matt identifies.

And then we're there at last!

You must be psychic, Anna -- just completed and uploaded Chapter 20 for PL by Matt when he listens to the final set later in the week :-)

Hurrah! That's the final chapter (Ch. 21), with the full credits, now uploaded for PL as well :-)

This is the current state of play:
  • Matt's hoping to PL the remaining chapters this week.
  • Sam is on the case for the missing narrator's line for Chapter 5 (he's been having microphone problems) -- once we've got this, I'll upload Chapter 5 for PL.
  • I just need to check for chapters that are missing the usual 5 seconds of silence at the end, which I'll then re-upload.
  • Finally, I need to make any PL changes identified by Matt.
Almost there :)

OK I've listened to the spot check in chapter 11 and that's fine.

For chapter 12 the Loring part is a little too quiet.

Chapters 16 and 17 seem good!

I'll check the rest soon.

Hello! Just a little update:
  • Matt's moving house at the moment, but is kindly taking downloads of the remaining chapters with him for proofing whilst he's waiting for a new Internet connection.
  • Sam's having trouble getting access to a similar microphone for recording the missing narrator line, but we have a cunning plan for getting that shortly.
  • I'll make the Chapter 12 volume fix recommended by Matt in the meantime -- hopefully this Monday.

A master of understatement would say that making the level fixes to Chapter 12 has caused me some pain. I'm running each completed chapter through the Levelator, as that successfully irons out differences between speakers and recordings in most cases. However every now and then it creates more difficulties than it solves: you fix one problem and another pops up -- like trying to smooth over bubbles in wallpaper. That's especially problematic in chapters where there's quite a mix of quality of recordings, such as in this chapter!

Anyway, I've made some changes to Chapter 12, which I think on balance improve it. The new version is now uploaded -- when Matt's back online I'll ask him to have a listen to it.

Hurrah! With huge thanks to Sam, who has now been able to record the missing Narrator line (my fault -- it wasn't highlighted in his original script), I've now uploaded the missing Chapter 5. The inserted narrator line does sound a little different, but it seems best to live with this, rather than spend more time on it at this stage.

I'll follow up with Matt on the remaining proof-listening, and will add the missing 5 seconds of silence to those chapters that don't already have them. We should hopefully have this project finally finished by the end of next weekend!

Brilliant -- thank you Matt! That just leaves Chapter 5 (the one that had the missing line), and the fix to Chapter 12, and then we're done! In the meantime, I've identified the five chapters that are missing the 5 seconds of silence at the end (Chs 14-18), which I'll fix now.

And just to confirm, Chapters 14 to 18 inclusive all now have the requisite five seconds of silence at the end (they're currently being uploaded).

(For the record, to save any chance of the source files differing from the mixed-down version that's already been proofed, I added the 5 seconds to the exported mp3 rather than to the Audacity project itself. Any degradation in quality during the re-encoding would be minimal, and it seems safer than the alternative!)
