Great stuff, Scott! btw, you'd be surprised at the number of well-known actors who refuse to watch their own movies (they can't stand to watch themselves on camera!).

Just to chime in, Scott, most of us don't like to listen to ourselves. I do a podcast, and I have to listen to myself all the time while I edit. I just tell myself that everyone hears in a different way and let it go. I mean, Bob Dylan, for Pete's sake!

hi folks, wondering if anyone wants to take on the management of this thread? weekly poetry is doing well, and though this is a worthy thread, I don't have time to keep up with the file management here.

The tricky thing about this thread is that there's no end date. Maybe we could start a new round every 2/3/6 months (whichever seems best) -- that way we can have the collections up on archive as "Librivox short poetry project: October 2005 - March 2006".

rfrancis, if you want to take over, all you really have to do is collect the files and give them a listen for quality control, check them for filename/id3 tag logic, and then hand them over to me when the collection period ends. Also keep track of who read which poem (correct spelling of name and personal URL would be a plus). Double checking that everything submitted is in the public domain would be good, too.

And of course respond to posts on this thread in a friendly encouraging way so readers feel warm and fuzzy and can't wait to go read something else for us :)

we might also want to consider doing a short story thread as well... I'll bet high school English teachers (and college English majors, heh) would go nuts for an audio poetry and short story collection.... just an idea =)

yup I think kara covered it all. I think, probably, the cataloging process will be complicated so we should prob just collect, say December 2005 poems etc...so it would just be random collections of PD poems, held in one place on archive.org. That's kinda cool.

But if our uploading/cataloging software is good maybe it'll be easier.

thistle: the short story idea is a good one, tho suffers from some of the same cataloging problems as poetry. (Note; this is because archive.org has very clunky upload/management process). all we need is a willing volunteer to manage it!

Alright. I give up. I'll be in charge of this one. I'm going to change the first post a bit so we have an ending date for this round, and then I can catalog those poems and start a fresh round. Hugh, it may be that some of the yousendit links have expired, so it might be best for you to just send me everything you've collected.

So, keep those poems coming! A reference to the gutenberg text from which you take them would save me a lot of researching time. :)
