I just downloaded Audacity, recorded Daffodils by William Wordsworth, and saved it as a podcast on a test site that I have,
http://www.smartcampaigns.com/alpha
Let me know what you think. If it seems good, I might get around to recording some of the other poems that I've always read to my children.

Hey Alden, sounds good! I'll include it in our collection.
For future recordings, I'd suggest being careful with audacity's noise reduction -- it tends to add a swirly metallic sound. (if you listen to daffodils through headphones, I think you'll see what I mean...) Sometimes a little background noise is preferable to that odd swirly sound :)
Anyway, thanks, and feel free to jump in and do some more reading for us!

I'm just uploading "Casabianca" by Felicia Hemans. It's my first recording for the website, as I've only recently come across the site. It's also the first time I've heard my verse recorded for quite a while.
I got the text from here:
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/hemans/works/hf-burning.html
Anyway, it's just uploaded now. The link is

Kara,
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully, I'll get a few more poems recorded before the end of the year. I also hope that I'll get a bunch of additional poems recorded next year. I'll leave the noice reduction off of the next recording.

I was able to use the noise reduction, but very very gingerly for the Rumi poem I posted. The process (which has been posted elsewhere), is like this:Aldon Hynes wrote:Kara,

1. Select a segment of room noisse.
2. Use audacity's "amplify" filter to reduce the noise level by anywhere from 3-6 dB (experiment for best results).
3. Now, use this as the "noise profile" and apply to the whole recording.
This seemed to work well enough for me to create an almost noiseless recording Of course, you can be the judge. Just look for my previous post and listen to the mp3 (about 1:30 long).
Best regards,

Yes, Kayvan, your recording quality is very good -- thanks for posting those tips! We need to make an official Guide to Audacity...

Hey all, I'm going to close this thread now. If you've just recorded a new poem for us, please hold on to it until tomorrow, when Peter will be starting up a new collection.
A bit later today I'll post here again with a list of poems/readers so you can check my info.
Thanks for all the wonderful poems -- we have around 30!

Great work Kara! I'm so glad this project has taken off and the new collection is gathering poems quickly! If it's not too much trouble, I've finally finished building my own webpage, so my new URL is http://www.anniecoleman.com. If that's too much work, it's no big deal, I'll just have it be that from now on. Once again, great work!

Cool, Annie, I'll change it later. If I haven't changed it within a couple of days it means I forgot, so please remind me :)
