COMPLETE: Ulysses, by James Joyce (special rules) - AF/hu
I'd love to read part 17, if it's still up for grabs... What a cool project-- I too have tried to slog through this (but never actually managed), so reading it aloud should be a great motivator, and hey!-- interesting background noises when listening to other people's!

This was _extremely_ fun to read. I want to encourage anyone who, like me, is a little bit intimidated by Joyce. He seems made to be read aloud! Now, maybe mine was an "easy" chapter or something, but it wasn't even that peculiar... I don't know if it's what Joyce intended, but it really seemed like a wonderful representation of how a person's mind wanders around during boring ordinary everyday events.
You can hear my husband in the background eating his dinner, wandering around the room, and typing. It's completely unedited -- stumbles and all. I haven't even listened back to it... so I hope it's ok :)

"How's things?" asks Hugh? Thoroughly boggled by 15c -- intimidated to the extreme but just this side of defeated. I make this report just to make any report at all, not to solicit encouragement, because I think it's a thing much better done without encouragement, done with daring or abandon or exhaustion or under influence. To encourage would be to neglect what the thing is. Meanwhile I read a bit for other projects and pepare for some mad playfulness that will launch me into the halcyon days.

lets remember that - becuase this project is intimidating - it has some special rules. you don;t have to edit, it doesn't have to be perfect. you are encouraged to get help with your chapters - friends, family, strangers. a pub is a totally acceptable location for recording.
we'll see what we get at the end, and we may want to do some "clean" chapters in the future, but this project is supposed to be fun! so don;t let it get you down ... relax, do the reading in manageable chunks if you wish - 10 mins at a time.
this one will not be a hallmark of libriivox perfection (my chapter sure isn't perfect) but it will be a testament to our determination!
