Your claim to 1, 20-21 has been staked, Dragoness.

As for the cheer, I suppose it's just my nature. And, well, it's scary spit being the new kid, but I've tried to be welcoming to everybody. That's just the way things should be. :)

Hello to all readers.

As we are constantly trying to make life easier for our volunteers :D we developed a tool for uploading files. Yousendit changed their terms of service and is not as useful as it once has been. If you have your own webspace, you are more than welcome to continue using it. The LibriVox Uploader is a replacement for yousendit. You will find the LibriVox Uploader here:
http://librivox.prolegomena.org/
You need a password to upload the files:
password: public
Please upload only the files of the projects listed there. We are still testing but we hope that we can provide this for all projects soon. If you have any problems or find any mistakes, please inform me.

Greetings,

Rainer

Well, the sailing season is here and I thought I had to read something to do with the sea! I must confess that I've never read this book, but I'm sure it's wonderful. I don't have a lot of time and so I chose a short section to record, but hope to be back for more!

I've already recorded it - 2nd book, chapter 23, Conclusion. Hope that's okay.

One thing I wanted to add, and I hope I'm not meddling too much - I always think it's important to include the name of the translator. Translation (esp. literary translation) is a hard thing to do, and I think the person should be credited. Also, each translation is an interpretation and it's often important to know, if there are several, which one is being read. - In case of Jules Verne, I found out that several bad translations were widely distributed in English-speaking countries. I was afraid that this might be one of them (since the later ones might not be PD) but was glad to find that this is not so.
amazon.com wrote:This edition is particularly valuable. Most people aren't aware that the standard English translation is filled with lots of translation errors which botch the science of Verne's masterpiece. Also, the standard version cuts about 25% of the original French novel. This translation fixes the errors, and returns 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea's scientific accuracy (for that time). Also, the cut parts have been restored, so we can now enjoy reading a complete version of Verne's novel.
Anyway, I have included the name of the translator in my recording. Whether you want it in there or not is of course your call, Marlo - just let me know and I'll send you an edited version which conforms with your instructions. But if you like it, perhaps we could have the translator in for the first and the last recording of the book?

Sorry if I'm obsessing about this, but I've done translations myself... :)

I would like to claim
"Chapter 07. The Mediterranean in Forty-Eight Hours" if I could.

I might claim more later as my schedule becomes more fixed. I'm not sure when I might get time to record. I should have it in within 2 weeks.

When is the revised Completion date as May 31, 2006 doesn't seem possible. :)

Yes, it seems difficult to meet the deadline . I have extended it to June 30th.
You can surely have chapter 7 of book two. Have fun with you recording!

Thanks kri for moving this post.

Cris, chapters 19, 23 and 24 are yours. Just make sure that you read the chapters of the first part :). But as you named them, there is no confusion possible.

Thanks for volunteering,
Rainer

Here is Sec. 2 Chapter 7. I hope everything is alright with it.

It seems that I have an affinity for French authors, but my French pronunciation is about as good my my ability to do one-handed push-ups on the back of an elephant that is tap-dancing on a tightrope over an active volcano (which I would assume to be horrific, as I haven't actually tried it  ).

Let me know if there are any problems.
