At ~11:09 the text has "lat. 50° 27' S., lon. 62° 13' W.". I think the measurements should be read "50 degrees 27 minutes", "62 degrees 13 minutes", that is, using "minutes" instead of "feet". What do you think?
For the record, this is true for global coordinates. One apostrophe is minutes; a quote mark is seconds.

For Section 43:

one instance of "lon. 69° 00' W." at ~00:25
and the ending silence is ~10 seconds, it could be shortened to ~5 seconds.

Will you be changing the latitude/longtitude measurements? Would you like me to search the text for previous instances and compare with the respective recordings?

One other thing, about the Title tags: in Section 43, the title tag is different from the previous files. I don't know exactly what's happening at cataloguing. Do the tags need to be adjusted manually, or are they filled up automatically as per the Magic Window (or can it be done either way)?

If there are other edits needed to me made on a file, mentioning the ID tags (and fixing them) is fine. If that's the only issue with a file, I can fix it at cataloging.

That is a result of not doing it in so long that I can't remember how it is supposed to be done.

Yes, I want to change it. I think I started reading it as seconds, it's just the last few that I switched to feet. If you could check a file "pretty please" that would be helpful.

You're welcome :)

I went through the text for lat./lon. measurements and spot-checked the following chapters:

Section 04 - Chapter 04: read as "minutes": OK

Section 07 - Chapter 07: read as "feet":
~11:39 text is It is situated in about 33° 30' S.

Section 08 - Chapter 08: read as "feet":
~13:24 text is lat. 34° 32' N., lon. 120° 06' W.
(also check Title tag, I think there's a typo)

Section 09 - Chapter 09: read as "feet":
~00:52 text is lat. 32° 39'
~01:01 text is lat. 37° 58'
(also check Title tag, I think there's a typo)

Section 31 - Chapter 26: read as "feet":
~00:31 text is latitude 37° 58'
(also check Title tag, it is missing the Section ## 31)

Section 36 - Chapter 30: read as "feet":
~08:22 text is latitude 14° 56' N., lon. 116° 14' W.
~20:38 text is Lat. 9° 54' N., lon. 113° 17' W.
~22:32 text is Lat. 5° 14' N., lon. 166° 45' W.
~25:31 text is lat. 19° 29' S., and lon. 118° 01' W.
~31:43 text is Lat. 26° 04' S., lon. 116° 31' W.
~32:08 text is lat. 34° 15' S., and lon. 116° 38' W.

Section 37 - Chapter 31 Part 1: read as "feet":
~08:10 text is lat. 47° 50' S., lon. 113° 49' W.
~28:44 text is latitude 55° 12' south, and supposed longitude 89° 5' west.
- I got a rather long end silence, with the reading ending normally at 29:13, but the file running up to 30:07.
(also check Title tag, it has 38 instead of 37 for Section ##)

Section 38 - Chapter 31 Part 2: read as "feet":
~01:40 text is lat. 54° 27' S., and lon. 85° 5' W.
~26:41 text is Lat. 54° 10', lon. 79° 07'

The rest of the cases of lat./lon. measurements are in the Chapters to come.

It's an 'easy' mistake. But it is peculiar that you used "minutes" the very first time, and then directly switched over.

I hope the editing is as easy as pasting over the correct word everywhere, though I think I noticed a few inconsistencies with the numbers so you could check that too.

Well, I asked in the forums specifically how to read it, and the discussion mentioned ' as being feet in certain contexts. I must have just remembered the last bit and not the beginning of the conversation. I will eventually change those, but I'd like to focus most of my energy on finishing the book. That way I won't get too overwhelmed.

Ahem. Might I be of some resistance, mayhaps? With respect to the corrections of the degrees-minutes-seconds (although I think he only gives minute resolution, not seconds?) I did trip on the degrees-feet thing myself, hence my visit here. As I'm fairly adept at audio editing, I'd be willing to insert the new corrections if you'd provide them. (It would be too much work if you didn't, of course, but not impossible, BION.) I suppose that all the corrections could be recorded in one "file," simply saying where to insert "the following correction."

It would probably suffice if you'd listen to each existing degrees and feet thing and try to use the same intonation/inflection for the fix. And while you're at it, if it reads xx degrees 0y minutes, don't bother saying the zero. Similarly for xx degrees 00 minutes, don't bother saying any minutes at all - just xx degrees.

Now, on an aside: being a Californian I was quite interested in Dana's observations of my state in its infancy. As I tend to do most things myself whenever possible, I took exception to his comments about how pathetically UNindependent "we" are (were). Naive yank probably had NO clue how funny his screwy NE accent sounded! Oh well....

Let me know re: the fixes; as you're pretty busy trying to finish this, perhaps you could give me a crack at it before you side-track on it; if you don't like my work, naturally you can round-file it at your discretion. I promise I won't insert any backward masking subliminal messages.

Thanks for your hard work!!!

P.W.

PLEASE! And thank you. I'm in school and I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish this at all. What do you want me to do, just listen and record all the minute bits and label them? I said Dan/a for the first half of the book and I'd like to change it to DA/na, as that seems to be the more proper pronunciation.

Hello! Thanks to this recent activity in the thread I noticed that Section 42 was uploaded in the meantime (possible since July  ) and I tried to download to PL.
But the link was broken and then I noticed that the original MC's folder is no more. So I can't find the files anywhere in the uploads' folders. :?:
Beth Anne, I hope you've kept those files in your system somewhere.
