Faery Lands of the South Seas by James Norman Hall and Charles Nordhoff.

THIS PROJECT IS NOW COMPLETE. ALL FILES CAN BE FOUND ON THE CATALOG PAGE:

http://librivox.org/faery-lands-of-the-south-seas/

Returning from the horrors of World War I James Hall and Charles Nordhoff follow a dream to tour the South Pacific. They later co authored “Mutiny on the Bounty”. This is a love story. A love story of the Pacific Islands, and a peek at a way of life that will never again be. A travelogue and an adventure rolled into one. This book just went into the public domain, so enjoy an early 20th Century look at paradise. (Summary by Mike Vendetti)
  • Target completion date: Nov 30, 2008
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://books.google.com/books?id=f5QqQIUNbowC&printsec=titlepage&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0#PPP9,M1

  • Type of proof-listening required: See the FAQ in the Listeners/Editors Wanted forum for information, and copy from there the description of the type of proof-listening needed for this project.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

Hi Esther,

Have the preface and chapter 1 ready for PL. I'm thinking this is going to be a really good book. I'll probably be doing a couple of chapters a day now that you have me started.

That's great Mike. We will hang out here and see if we can entice a proof listener to come along....

Hi Esther,

Just finished narrating chapter 2. It 53 minutes long prior to editing, so when the edits are done, will be at the most 10 minutes shorter. Should I split it?

Hope you are having a good day.

No that should be ok. It's really up to you though. We ask that they not be longer then 70 mins so it will fit on a CD. Most CDs will hold 80 mins so a 45 min and a shorter one will fit ok.

If you are comfortable with the length, then leave it. I prefer no more then about 40 mins myself.

If I end up with 2 -30 min sections in one chapter, I will go for that.

Esther (not much help)

I'm interested in being a Proof Listener for this project. Standard PLing, or would you prefer something more detailed?

Cheers,
Betty

Hi Libraryanne,

If it's ok with Esther, Standard is fine with me.

Okay. I've downloaded the first two files, I'll listen to them later and post tomorrow.

P.S. I have a password for the Magic Window, is it all right if I post my PL notes in the MW?

Thanks, Mike. An interesting book so far. :)

I PL'ed the first two files.

Section 00 has one glitch. You forgot to say "end of preface" before the ending 5 seconds of silence.

Section 1 also has one tiny error. You didn't read the Librivox Disclaimer in its entirety at the beginning, leaving out "For more information or to volunteer, please visit Librivox dot org."

The readings themselves were spot on.

I'll PL Section 2 late this afternoon.

We have a new format for the second and following files:
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:

* "Chapter [number] of [Faery Lands of the South Seas ]. This LibriVoxrecording is in the Public Domain.
Does it conform to this?

Esther :)
