Please do so. I'll put 18 & 19 for you in the MW.
I'm just in the process of listening to your previous contributions.

PL 16 & 17. Thank you, Tracy! Well, that is a pretty convincing analysis on fashion, and well read at that.
Some points on the files; In 16 "Section 16 of The Theory of the Leisure Class" is missing before the Librivox disclaimer.
In 17 at 02:36 inference read as indifference makes the sentence a bit hard to follow.

Hi
I can certainly fix those two things. Anything else?
Once I make the revisions, what do I do about the file names?
Let me know if I should use the exact file names as I did originally or if I should name them something else.

Just use the exact same file names as before, the server is set up to rename the older ones automatically.
Looking forward to the next ones.

PL 14 - Thank you Morgan. There's on repeat at 13:10 - you first read lead and then correct as lend.
As a sidenote, whatever might be said of this book otherwise, the notion that we are basically paying for wasted labour when we pay for design - and the more wasted labour, the better the product - is a pretty arresting thought.

It certainly is an arresting idea, but I believe the core idea is also his theory's big flaw. He is assuming that anything which adds aesthetic value is wasteful. I disagree most strongly with that.
I am on the side of Ruskin and Morris. Give me beauty AND utility. Let the bare minimum suffice for the spiritual among us, I want adornment.
In addition, wouldn't putting thousands and thousands of craftsmen out of work, and onto charity be a wasteful thing?
Anyway, I'll get off my sopabox now and submit my corrected recording.

That's a good one. In a sense you are right, yes.MorganScorpion wrote:Let the bare minimum suffice for the spiritual among us, I want adornment.
I also find that at least in everyday utensils the modern design seems to lean more on usability rather than the decoration part. It is a trend of architecture as well: the supporting structure itself is beautiful, and all the decoration is stripped off. So in effect the theory is flawed because in modern design the hours are put to serve the "utility end" part of it all and is not mere decoration to differentiate.
Still I find that his theory holds water especially in the luxury end of the scale of consumables.
Too tired to listen more, will be back tomorrow.

hi Illi
I've uplaoded section 18:

Some of his paragraph-length sentences are real tongue-twisters but I'm getting the hang of it.
