Andersen's Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen.
How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are up for grabs. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section youd like to read (include the blue number, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: 30 April 2006 but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and itll go back to the pool. Theres no shame in this; were all volunteers and things happen.

Sample rate
1. 44.1KHz is the default sample rate in lots of software. We like getting files at this rate.
2. Some know-it-all told us that 32KHz sounds better. If you know how, try to use this rate.
3. We want to make this easy, so we'll take any rate from 22 to 44.1KHz, if you need us to.
4. Please don't use 48KHz or anything under 22KHz. If you accidentally send us something at these rates, our uploaders will resample it for you and advise you on how to record at a sample rate we can use. Don't worry, your work will never be wasted!
DURING recording: Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording: Start of recording (Intro)
"This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"

At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of Anderson's Fairy Tales, by Hans Christian Anderson."
Please leave a couple of seconds silence at the end of your recording!
Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

On special request from Michael, who needs lots of stories for his three small children on a 3-day car trip from Canada to Florida... let's try and do these quickly! :)
I've signed up xen for the Snow Queen because he's got it down as a solo project, but I don't know if he's still recording and if he wants to donate it. I'll keep his name there for a little while, however if someone else is dead keen on it, feel free to do it anyway!

m/ - 15 is yours, and you're welcome. :) I'd been thinking about Andersen's fairy tales for a while myself, since we've done Grimm in German and English, and various other fairy tales and fables. Andersen's are not quite as gory as the the Grimm stories, I think.
kayray - 01 for you, thanks. Also one of my favourites - we had a great recording on vinyl with it. The narrator managed to get his voice very high to get the first child shouting "Aber er hat ja gar nichts an!" :) As a child, I always wondered how the Emperor couldn't have noticed - he must have been so cold without clothes!

Wait about three minutes to download it -- should be 12.38 MB but it's not finished uploading yet :)

I'd be glad to take another... the problem is that I'm unfamiliar with most of these stories, and all the ones I know (except the Emperor) make me cry. Would you choose another cheerful one for me? (If there is one...) :)
Hey shouldn't this be 1 out of 18?

Thanks Kara, changed it to 18. You could read The Happy Family and The Leap-Frog - both shouldn't make you cry and have the added advantage of being very short! :) Let me know what you'd like to do.
