SOLO Bib Ballads by Ring Lardner

Hi, I would like to submit a voice recording of the above short book, found at
http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/25961.

I have recorded the poem "Inversnaid" by Gerard Manley Hopkins in the Collection of Short Poems 69 and the book "A Plea for Old Cap Collier" by Irvin S. Cobb in the Short Nonfiction Collection Vol. 010 already.

I'll be ready to start this solo project in a couple more days.

Best regards,

Jack Thro

Hi, Jack! I've split your post off into its own thread, so that you can work on the project without affecting the "how to start a solo" thread.

First, you'll need to to to this wiki page and copy all of the bbcode between the lines "Copy below this line" and "Copy above this line", and paste it into your first post. Then you'll need to edit all of the items that are in bold on the wiki page, as well as the items asked for in the temporary paragraph between the lines of equal signs.

Once you've gotten that done, an MC will come along and claim the projects, and set you up with a Magic Window database entry, and get the project moved over into the Going Solo forum.

Happy recording! :D

Hey, Jack, I got your emial, I just haven't had a chance to reply. Until an MC comes along and claims your project, you can upload your files to my directory...that's the pw - PaulW directory...on the uploader. We can move it to the proper directory later. If no one else comes along by the time I get one of my current projects in the catalog, I'll take it on, but I'm currently over my comfort level on projects at the moment.

Hi Jack,

As you can see, I shuffled the thread about a bit, to get you a nice clean first post :)

You now have your very own magic window (MW) - I'll PM you with some details on how you can access the MW and edit it yourself.

Some questions / suggestions:
- I saw you didn't suggest any file names or ID3 tags - so I was so bold as to suggest some in your first post. Let me know if you'd like to do it differently.
- You ask for 10 sections, but I see the book actually contains 29 poems. Let me know if you'd like more sections, that's an easy thing to do. Or were you planning on combining some poems?
- As the poems are so short, and as it is a solo - I have made a suggestion for a little change in the introduction (see first post for details): that is, the long disclaimer for the first recording of the book, and then for the rest of the sections using a shorter intro, a bit like the one that is used in the poetry collections. OK?
- As for a summary text: you can make up something yourself, we'll only need it by the time we get to the cataloging stage.

Have fun with the recording, and let me know if you have any questions!

PS I'll be away on a conference from Wednesday afternoon (European time, that is) Sept 3 till Sunday evening Sept 8 - and don't know how much I'll be on Librivox in that time (probably not that much, unless the evenings turn out to be boring and there's internet access in my hotel) - but you know that there's always someone around Librivox who can help you out with any urgent problems - whatever your timezone :).

PPS I'll leave the project in the New Projects Launch Pad for a day or two more - it would be great if we can find you a Dedicated Proof-Listener (DPL), and they are more likely to spot the project here :D

Hi, Anna,

Thanks for volunteering to be my MC for Bib Ballads, and for putting in sample file names and ID tags. I didn't know what to do with those, and I feel I can work with them now.

Maybe it would be better to have 30 files (sections) instead of 10? File #0 would be the Foreword, and each of the following 29 poems would have a file to itself. Could you please make that change for me?

I was able to open the Magic Window, and I'll try to do some editing in it once I have a file or two uploaded. Since each file will be small enough, it won't be any trouble to start over on a file if there is any problem.

I'm glad that I decided to do a small work for my first Solo project, rather than beginning with something like War and Peace.

Thanks again,
Jack

Hi Jack,
Now from a hotel room in Sweden (with free, fast, wireless internet access - perfect!): 30 sections are put in - feel free to try out the editing of the MW.
And yes, this is a great first solo project. As you have noticed, there's all these small but important details, which become very easy once you've done it once or twice, but can seem very overwhelming at first...
Have fun recording.

Hi, Anna,

Greetings from Japan to Sweden! I am actually not at home in Tokyo now, but at a hotel room in Sendai, about 1 hour 40 minutes north along the coast from Tokyo by express train.

I have recorded and uploaded the Foreword of Bib Ballads. The timing is 1 minute, 40 seconds. The URL for the upload is:
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/lz/bibballads_00_lardner.mp3

Hopefully I will have a few more files following very soon, now that I have finally gotten started with the first.

Hi Jack,
You made a good start, I see! I took a listen to the first file, and it sounds all good. So that one is ready for the catalog.
I've put in the listen link - you can see in the MW where I copied the link to make it appear like that - once you know, it's easy.
I'll move the thread over to "going solo" and I will post in the "Listeners wanted" thread, to see whether we can find a (dedicated) prooflistener.

Have fun with the rest!
