Hi Nidoti,
Thank you very much - I took a quick listen to the first few seconds, and it sounds good! Official PL will follow by our dedicated proof-listener.

Does your friend Antonia have a forum name with us? The Librivox catalog uses the forum name to link recordings to persons (the catalog name is then just linked to that as well, if that makes sense). Two options:
1) if your friend signs up and gets her own forum name, we can use that.
2) if your friend has no plans ever to sign up to Librivox, and this is a one time recording (which I hope not of course!), we could also just make a dummy forum name (such as "no-forum-name-25") to give her a catalog page.

I would really recommend 1), especially if she has got the Librivox virus and is thinking of submitting more recordings :D But both ways are possible.
Let me know, and I can enter the recording into the magic window.

Anna

PS I'll be away from a computer until Tuesday 30/9 probably, so it won't be done until then - but your recording will still be safe here.

Hi Anna,

I agree with you that "no- forum- name- 25" would be a rather dummy name. So why don' t you use her name: Antonia V. Manciu? At least until she has the time to join us here, at Librivox, with more recordings.

Looking through the recordings I saw that there are both forum names and "real" names, at everybody' s choice. My two very- short recordings are not "signed" with my forum name.

In the future I intend to make some recordings with children (in Romanian language) and some of them don' t know English to join the forum. It would be too complicated. And I know that they would like to see their names there, on the screen.

Am I convincing? :D

Hi Nicoleta,
I'm afraid I must have explained it unclearly. Of course you can have any catalog name that you like, and that will appear in the way that you show in the example.
However, these entries are all linked through the forum name (the catalog name is just a label we give). So, the forum name is for example the one that you see in the magic window -
Look for example on your own catalog page: http://librivox.org/newcatalog/people_public.php?peopleid=2579 - this also gives your forum name "nidoti" - that is the name that appears in the magic window when you claim a section.

In other words, we need a forum name to link all the database entries to each other. If your friend is only planning on recording 1 or 2 things and not get involved more it may be okay that we make up a name like "no-forum-name-28" to use behind-the-scenes. If she plans on doing more recordings and wants to get active on the forums, I would recommend that you make up a forum sign-up for her (or let her do it herself). I don't see any disadvantage in the last choice, unless I'm missing something?

To the forum name, you can connect any catalog name you want, and that name will appear principally in the catalog.

Let me know what you'd prefer, and feel free to PM me if anything is unclear.
Anna

EDIT: PS Will be fun if you can get the children's plan working! Please remember that we need to get parental consent to include the children's recordings in Librivox. The children that participate here (and there are quite a few who do incidental recordings) are usually entered on the forum by their parents, who give them their own login - during the forum login procedure there is a step where they formally give permission (I believe per email but I'm not sure). If you really don't want to sign the children on the forum, but want to include their recordings in some other way, please let one of the Librivox admins on the project know because we would need to get the permission sorted out in some way.

Hello Michael,
Thank you very much for your contribution, and the information you give with it. It's up in the magic window for proof-listening. I've changed the title of the mp3 to include the "shortstory34" in the start, so the link in the window should work, though the one in your post won't anymore.

Oh - and if you happen to run into any other online text for the story please let us know! I will just use this one, otherwise, don't worry - but... This Google Book entry seems to have the much too common Google Book failing that I don't get any access to it from outside the US, so that will make the link unusable to many of our listeners... Very world un-friendly but there it is... (I believe it has something to do with some US libraries with which Google collaborates not allowing non-US access, but I'm not sure, that may be just a rumor I heard).

Thanks, I'm sorry I titled the story incorrectly, it's been a while since I submitted a reading.

And so sorry about the Google book reference; I wasn't able to find the story on Gutenberg or in general online searches, but if I do, I will let you know.

But I have no doubt it is public domain; the first publication date was 1895, and the author passed on in 1911, about 97 years ago.

So, thanks for the information, and my apologies again.

Can I add the first LibriLang text to a short story collection?

Story of a Sonnet by Artur Azevedo

The original text is here:

http://librilang.org/Story_of_a_Sonnet.html

the Authors wikipedia page is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artur_Azevedo

I wondered if we could add a small credit, just after the disclaimer, along the lines of 'Translated from Portuguese by Leni Ribeiro, with Chris Hughes at LibriLang.org'

Would this be OK? I aim to have a recording done in a day or so.
