Alright, Eric! I'm glad you took the plunge and I'm sure that you'll be back. You can also contribute to Peter's ongoing poetry collection. Over there, you get to pick your own poem! Poetry is a great way to work on your style.

Let me know what you think.
Very nice, Eric! You read quite well and did the poem justice!

Thanks!

Ahhh... sweet! There is something about your voice! Now I know how a patriarchal sonnet is 'sposed to be read!

Thank you, Annie!

Here is my own rendering:

http://climber53.com/librivox/mother_night_johnson_rg.mp3

Often, it is easier to read a poem when you don't adhere to form such as iambic pentameter or attempt a feeble rendering of a Petrarchan incantation.

Well, don't laugh too hard -- we all get better with time.

The March Jamboree Weekend is now officially underway!

If you have never read a poem for Weekly Poetry, might I suggest you jump on the bandwagon before the deadline expires later this evening? We are going to keep this thread open a little longer than usual to accomodate any Johnny or Jill Come-Latelys!

This week's poem is a nice one to start you off on reading poetry. And reading poetry is a nice way to develop skills even for your prose readings!

So join in on the fun here!

There's a slight background noise I didn't notice in any of my previous recordings, hope it's not too distracting. Any ideas where it came from or how to get rid of it? My headset mic is a real cheapo, maybe it's getting ready to blow up... or maybe my listening skills are improving...? :)

Thanks, Ted! My youngest brother is living in Austin and I went to school there once a long, long time ago. Hook 'em Horns!

Your reading is nice but the background flutter distracts from it. I admit I'm not much of a sound engineer but I did invest in a top line headset/mic and my audio editing software (Adobe Audition $$$) has a lot of tools to edit stuff luck that out.

If you think it's the mic and you plan to do a lot of recording, I would bite the bullet and upgrade the gear. Most audio recording software has some noise filterning capability, even those that aren't $$$. But it's always better to eliminate it at the source rather than rely on software.

Thanks for joining in on the poem!

Lisa,

You have a lovely voice! The technical quality of your recording (sound level, clarity, etc.) was also quite good. I hope to hear you recite more poems-- keep this forum in mind during the weeks to come! I find that I always keep coming back.

It is so gratifying to see the number of new members who took on this poem as their first recording for LibriVox.

Thanks, Lisa!

This run of the Weekly Poem has now officially drawn to a close. Fifteen wonderful renderings of Johnson's words have been lofted up into the skies. I am grateful to have been able to host this particular poem as it has more meaning and comfort for me this week than you can possibly know.

Thank you all and best wishes for smooth recordings in the future!
