Good choice! I had a listen and it's all PL-OK - thank you very much for the contribution. I agree, it's a little bit hard to classify this, but let's put it here in non-fiction.

An a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y BRILLIANT voice!

There was a bit of fluctuation in volume, and the original was quite quiet with hiss which I tried to correct, but I honestly do not know if the original is better. I let PaulW and other more experienced users decide. I also corrected the id3-tags and the end silence (it was too long), but apart from those, wow!

Hi, Wasichu, thanks for the submission.

I haven't overlooked it, but the link you supplied for your source is claiming copyright on it, and although you can't clam copyright on text that has entered the public domain, if enough editing is done, it can qualify for a new work copyright, so I'm having to check things out a lot more closely. So far in my internet searches, the only texts that I can find with the Anti-Suicide essay seem to have been prepared by the same person, with the same copyright notice.

Did you read this from the online source you linked to, or do you have a paper copy of the work? If you have a paper copy (or can obtain scans of a paper copy), it can be submitted to Project Gutenberg for a copyright clearance. Or, if you can obtain scans of a paper copy published prior to 1923, it can be checked against one of the on-line sources to see if the online source is sufficiently different

I'll be getting back to you about this one after we've done some more research.

EDIT: Okay, we've found a source that it definitely PD on Google Books. Would you be able to check to see if the text you read from matches this one? If it does, If you can't, I'll ask whoever does the Proof-Listening to follow along with the Google Books text. I'll use tha Google Books link since we know it's PD.

Bad news: the Google books version is definitely different from the text I read from. Sadly, my audio book will have to be deleted. From now on, I will make sure that any text I read from is posted on Gutenberg before I record anything. Sorry for the mix-up.

That's a shame. But, if you want to read this essay, you could certainly read it from the Google edition. But that's totally up to you, I'm not pushing either for or against it.

As far as PG goes, it's certainly not the only source of PD material. Archive.org has many scanned books, as does Google, and we've used ccel.org (Christian Classics Ethereal Library), and the Baldwin Project (mainlesson.com) for sources, as well, among others that I can't remember at the moment.

And you'll need to check the copyright statement for each work at Gutenberg...most of their works are PD in the US, but some are copyright with the copyright holder allowing free non-commercial use of the work. We've run into that problem with scripts for some plays in the past. We just have to make sure that the source is definitely in the public domain.
