Thanks, Joyce, it's in the window and awaiting a proof-listener.

Since this is your first recording for Librivox, I've used your forum name as the catalog name for you. You can see your catalog page here If you'd like something different, let me know, and I can change it. Also, if you have a web page or blog, we can add that to the URL line, and then when your name is clicked on in the catalog page, it will take the person to your web page or blog. If you don't have one, that's okay, as most catalog pages will simply point them at your reader page as I've linked above.

Paul - I think you missed my submission from 11/18, Free Speech in Wartime by LaFollette. Can you let me know if it's okay?

I did indeed miss your post, David, my apologies.

However, we may have a problem with the source. The speech was delivered in 1917, so it is clearly public domain. But the abridged version on the web site, as it was published in 1995, could have had sufficient editing done to it to qualify it for a "new work" copyright. Also, at the bottom of the web page is
www.americanrhetoric.com wrote:Copyright Status: Text = Restricted, seek permission. Image = Uncertain.
Since our recordings are released into the public domain, we must have a public domain source for the text.

I did some searching, and found a source ( think it's from the University of Arkansas) here: http://www.uark.edu/depts/comminfo/cambridge/war.html. There is no claim of copyright or restriction on this one, and I'd feel comfortable with using it as your source. It's probably the full speech, so you may want to check your recording against it to see how much of it was cut out in the abridgment at American Rhetoric, and possibly add it to the recording.

Let me know what you you think.

Paul,

Sorry about the bad source. Given the speech was from 1917, I hadn't considered a problem. I knew this was an abridged copy but was never able to find the full text. Thanks for hunting this down. At just a quick look, this speech is over 15,000 words vs. my recording of 1850 words, so there is quite a bit missing. Plus the original is too long for this collection. I'll just move on to something else.

 15K words! Wow! Well, if at some point you want to record the whole thing, I'd be glad to MC a solo project for you. It would make a great addition to the catalog, in my opinion. If you don't want to do the whole thing, you might want to post the UArk source over in book suggestions.

Thanks! I will take a look at how to break it down in parts for a solo project.

Hi, Ron, and welcome to Librivox!

A couple of additional things I'll need from you before I can add this to the Window. First, I'm guessing by the filename of your upload that this is "A Tale of the Ragged Mountains" by Poe (E. A. Poe?). If it's not, please let me know.

I'll also need to know the URL for your online text source, as we link to the source text for all of the works in the LV catalog.

Last, I'll need to know you you want your name to appear on the catalog page. That can be your forum name (randr), your real name, or some other pseudonym you'd like to appear. Also, if you have a blog or personal web page, we can link your catalog name to if, if you wish. That is completely optional, if you don't have a blog or web page, the system automatically links to your reader catalog page. As an example, you can see how my catalog page looks here.

I'm going to be traveling for the next two days, so I probably won't be able to update the window, but I should have net connection by Wednesday, so go ahead and post your info, and I'll update things when I get back online.

Thanks! :D
