Thanks, Mark, for your recording.. and welcome to LibriVox! I'm glad you decided to take the plunge. I'd never read it, or even heard of Foss, but I enjoyed it too. It seems even more applicable to today's world. I especially liked the lines, "Preach like Savonarola; rule like Alfred; do not shirk; Paint like Raphael and Titian; build like Angelo--why not?" And your love of the poem definitely comes through.. so thanks for giving it a voice!mlaydon wrote:Hello,
This is my very first LibriVox recording. I've been wanting to contribute for years so here I am. I'm in love with this poem. 8)

COMPLETE: [POETRY] Short Poetry Collection 068 - lm
I remember how, in college, I got that part-time job as a circus clown, and how the children would laugh and laugh at me. I vowed, then and there, that I would get revenge.

Thanks again, kristin! Somehow I was expecting this to be a humorous poem, but it turned out to be quite heartfelt, a sentiment which you captured very well in your reading. Haven't read hardly anything of Lawrence, but I enjoyed this one.kristin wrote:And another:

A childhood favourite of mine - A Smuggler's Song from Puck of Pook's Hill (published 1906) by Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936).

EDIT: So sorry, I only just looked at the MW - I see by some curious co-incidence that this has already been submitted by A.N. Other. Please withhold mine until a later collection, Leon.
And, sorry Twit, this means you have a little longer to wait (post below).

By my count I make that one more poem before a new collection is started and I can submit another two.
Thanks, Ruthie! I've made a note to withhold this one till the next collection, but so you know, there isn't any "policy" that says we can only have one reading of a particular poem in each collection. Short Poetry 062, I think, had three different readings of "The Raven". If it's still your preference to wait till the next one, that's fine by me.. just let me know if you change your mind.RuthieG wrote:A childhood favourite of mine - A Smuggler's Song from Puck of Pook's Hill (published 1906) by Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936).

For what it's worth though, I already listened to it, and it'll be OK to catalog. Quite a different interpretation from Mike001's, but I enjoyed them both.

One thing I might advise for the future, though, is to turn up the volume on your mic a bit. It was kind of difficult to hear you. It's hard to gauge that sort of thing on your first recording, so it's no big deal. (It's almost certainly not because you weren't talking loud enough). I'll just adjust the volume when I put this poetry collection in the catalog.
But like I said, nice reading! See you around!
