Complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:
http://librivox.org/a-midsummer-nights-dream-by-william-shakespeare/

A Midsummer Night's Dream, by William Shakespeare.

Chocoholic is MC and BC
Cori is editor and co-BC
Brian Edwards is DPL

1. Deadline. All individual roles must be in by June 1, 2008. This is to allow time for editing before the cataloging deadline of... you guessed it! Midsummer Eve, or June 23, 2008.

2. Accents. All accents welcome! We are talking about fairies in Greece here, not to mention the Amazon queen, so there is no such thing as an "appropriate" accent. What's more, it'll probably help listeners distinguish the characters if we have a good mix.

3. Gender-specific roles. I prefer some of the roles to be gender-correct; these are marked in the Notes section of the box. Most of the roles are open to anyone, though. The fairies are supposed to be male but I won't insist on that. :D

4. Singing. Fair warning, Peaseblossom sings a lullaby in II.2. (The script says "Fairies sing" and I have deemed Peaseblossom to be the generic fairy whenever one isn't specified. It would be even better if two fairies were to sing, or if Peaseblossom can do a couple of tracks and make him/herself sound like more than one.) If you don't want to come up with a tune of your own, let me know and we'll figure something out or call in assistance. Also: Bottom gets to sing in III.1 but as he is meant to be tone-deaf, lack of singing ability should not keep anyone from taking the part. <grin>

Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

I am VERY intrigued by this one... I think it would be fun to play the part of the singing fairie. Singing I've done; being a fairey... not yet. :-)

I can also do the "more than one voice" thing...

That's why it's called ACTING.

So shall I sign you up for Peaseblossom? :D

Which I think is why this intrigues me so. I'm also doing some vocal work for Buffy Between the Lines, Season 2, so this sounds like fun as well...

Terrific! You're in as Peaseblossom.

I'm sure you already know this, but if you use a tune of your own, you will be donating it to the public domain. And if you borrow a tune, that has to be a PD one as well. Just clarifying, in case clarification is needed.

Since come summer I will be recording again, I'd like to snag Titania, please?

I can also offer myself as an editor when the time comes around, though presumably that won't be necessary for a while.

I love this play so much...glad Librivox is tackling it. :D

(Also, with regards to the music...I wrote a short thing for a song bit in Faust, which, if not great, was at least passable...so I'd be willing to contribute something on that score [ha ha] if the faeries would prefer not to have to make it up themselves.)

Yay, Rosalind! I hope your summer starts in the next couple of weeks -- did you see the slightly insane deadline? :D (We can do it!)

Cori's going to be editing this one, but thanks for the offer (you can be emergency backup) -- and for the music offer too!

Now that Titania has been taken I'd like to read the part of Quince/Prologue.

Well, you would have made a lovely Titania, but Quince it is!

I recorded Act 1 of Lysander just to avoid doing thinking about exams. It's certainly not the best, and I'm not sure I sound exactly authoritative (I sound more like I'm about twelve, actually), but if you think it's all right I'd be happy to give the rest a bash.

Wow, thanks, mb! Procrastinating, are we? :) Of course you may have the part. I've got you in the box. Your sound is coming from only one side of the headphones, so please fix that on your original recording and reupload, OK? (Switch to mono.) It's fine to wait until Brian PL's the whole file, so if there are any edits you can do them at the same time and only have to reupload once.

edit -- Your catalog name is simply mb, no URL -- correct? Also, we'll need you to add in your role and name for the Dramatis Personae: "Lysander, in love with Hermia, read by mb." Thanks!
Laurie Anne
