Hello everyone,

I'm curious, where does this recording come from? It suddenly appeared in the catalogue without any mention in the forum. Was it donated to LibriVox? It's a pleasant surprise if the catalogue starts to grow all by itself

Oh, gosh, sorry, I should have listed it here!

Typee was donated to us by Michael Scherer. He contacted Hugh somehow, and Hugh sent him to me so I could catalog it for him. He is a *fabulous* reader and I'm pestering him to read something else for us. And he's planning to write a better summary for Typee soon, too.

all audio files can be found on our catalog page:

Oh, never mind, I just wondered. It's great if we can get already recorded audiobooks. And if you can persuade him to do other recordings, too, it's even better.

Perhaps we should ask J.K.Rowling if she wants to donate the Harry Potter Audiobooks to us. THAT would make LibriVox popular :D.

michael records books for the library of congress in the US, I guess for the blind. somehow there are tricky copyright issues, but he had full copyright on this one, and was happy to donate to us give it to us & public domain.

yes, we can certainly take already-recorded books ... we just need to be careful about copyright (eg rowland's publisher prob won't let us have potter), but I was thinking we might want to have a catalog note for non-LV projects.

eg these guuys contacted me and we're trying to figure out what to do next?

Doh! Typee ends apruptly. Makes you think: "Am i missing a chapter? Is this the end of the book?"

We might wanna add "This is the end of Typee by Herman Melville. This book read by Michael Scherer"

Who by the way is an awesome reader, sounds professional indeed. If people are downloading Typee as their first Librivox book, they be having high expectations afterwards. :)

(I am not going to Torrent it until we sorted that.)

I'm listening to Typee now. What a great book, and wonderful narration.

I'm a fan of two genres: First person true adventures, and seafaring stories. This one fits both categories.

Bravo!

My husband and I have been listening to this story over the weekend. I kept thinking the reader's voice is familiar... lo and behold, I finally placed it! A few years ago, I listened to his reading of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged for the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. What an awesome coincidence ...One of my favorite books from one of my now favorite readers!

So far we're really enjoying Typee!
