COMPLETE: Aesop's Fables, Volume 2 (Fables 26-50) - SW/ll

Aesop's Fables, Volume 2 (Fables 26-50)
With the first Volume in the can, it's now time to get started on Volume 2! I thought that the idea of doing Aesop's Fables was charming, but was daunted by the fact that there are 284 of the things. Thanks to Annie for the elegant solution of breaking them up into Volumes of 25 Fables each. That'll allow us to read each Fable as an individual chapter. It'll make for short readings, which should prove a comfortable way for new folks to get their feet wet in the strange new format of reading aloud into your computer. A nice side benefit is that even folks with modem lines should be able to upload these without too much trouble. Most are less than 2 minutes long. Feel free to take a bunch of them!

quick note -- because of our awesome validator, book coordinators no longer need to collect runtimes or filesizes :)
Thanks, Chip!

Sign me up for two if you please chip! I'll let you choose for me, as they're all the same to me until I've read them.
Well why don't you take the first two then, kri!
02-01 THE FOX AND THE STORK
02-02 THE WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING
Thanks for the tip, kayray! To be honest, I include them more for the convenience of those who might wish to download and listen before it's posted on the final page. I know that I'm still tied to a modem line at home and there are huge differences between 2Mb, 20Mb, and 200Mb files! But I've ammended the instructions. Thanks again!

Hi, Chip, I'll accept your offer to dip my toes in the LibriVox wading pool with a little Aesop. They're small and fun and will be a very good place to start. Thanks for the encouragement...
I'll do 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Hi Chip
I am brand new to LibriVox and am anxious to try this out. Can I try the next three on the list?
I also have a question, I currently am a user of Audacity for other types of recordings and I sometimes get a background noise (buzzing) is this from my computer, my microphone, or do I need to change my settings?
Thanks, and I look forward to working with you.

If not, you might consider a USB microphone. The advantage of the USB mic is that it plugs directly into your computer, digitizing the sound and bypassing your sound card altogether. If you're considering this option, think about getting a boom mic instead of one that sits on your desk or that you hold in your hand. Boom mics are worn on the head and keep the mic sitting at the same position in front of your mouth throughout the entire recording. It makes for much more consistent sound levels.
I got a Logitech USB Headset designed for use with the PS2 system. It plugged right into my computer and WinXP picked it up without a hitch. It's got a pop screen, noise cancelling, and a little preamp built right in; I liked it so much I got a second one to keep at work. The mic's even got it's own thread:

It's great to have you aboard, Desdemona - it's always nice to have a fresh voice in the mix!

Though it's tough to be certain without actually laying hands on your system, it sure sounds to me like you've got a bad ground in the system. Since it happens "sometimes" rather than "always" I'd tend to think the problem was in the cord between your mic and your computer. Try unplugging and replugging it; quite possibly just a tiny bit of corrosion is on the connector and the physical action of doing this will probably shake it loose and solve your problem.Desdemona wrote:I also have a question, I currently am a user of Audacity for other types of recordings and I sometimes get a background noise (buzzing) is this from my computer, my microphone, or do I need to change my settings?

I thought so too. They're really short, so you don't get the "intimidation factor" which reading an entire chapter (let alone an entire book!) can bring. Plus the whole project finishes so quickly that you can point your work out to your friends; in just another week or so they'll be able to download Volume 2 directly from the site and hear you!phoenixascending wrote:I'd love to help out. Hi Chip,
Been laid low with the flu the past few days. My body is coming back but my voice is still pretty raspy. May I have the last fable in the set-- The Crab and His Mother?
