COMPLETE - The Owl and the Pussycat, by Lear - PO/ll
Arrrgh! I had wanted to do High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. But as I looked, I realized that he'd written it in 1941 - it's not in the public domain... sigh.
Thanks for the offer, I'll do it later.
I guess I'll just have to hang around with LibriVox for another 20 years or so...

Sigh - I'll wade through the Wordsworth again then. Does anyone know that poem about the two sisters, lots of turrets and towers and one sister kills the other's lover? At least I think she does. Except maybe they're not sisters. Any maybe it's not Wordsworth but Keats. Hmmmm... The poem was in a very nice, old, leather-bound edition I used to own (and which I sold along with all my other books).

ROFL! This is *exactly* how my memory works (or doesn't)...Gesine wrote:Sigh - I'll wade through the Wordsworth again then. The Owl and the Pussycat, as read by a melodramatic dandy.

OK, I will then. Won't promise Dickinson. Prepare to be surprised. When should I put this up - on Monday? or Sunday?Peter Why wrote:Gesine, do choose a poem. I like the Dickinson ones you've been reading.

Hey, there. This is my first time attempting something, so tell me what I need to improve to do better when I start recording chapters.
(and I know my mic isn't that great; I'll get a better one soon)

Hey Guntar, that sounds great! I'd say your mic is just fine. You read with very nice expression and the slight background noise is not bothersome at all. Go sign up to read something else for us! :)

Thanks, Kara! I listened to yours, and yours is very clear; you enunciate very well.
And I am thinking of signing up for Vanity Fair; I do love that book very much...
[edit: Boosted by your vote of confidence, I just signed up for five chapters... I better get to work!]

I'm aware there are some level issues, I was trying different things out on my multitrack and mic placement. There won't be dynamics problems when I record a chapter, I promise.
That and I had to stop myself from laughing on some of the absurdities. Really, who gets away with Piggy Wig these days?

Welcome to LibriVox, headphone!
I know exactly what you mean, only in my case the trouble was with not laughing at the refrain of the Owl's song. I can't help but wonder if that double-entendre didn't exist in Lear's day also...?

Yup, that's why I ended up going completely camp, each verse I recorded ended up with a loud BAHA in the middle of it unless I just cut loose.ChipDoc wrote:Welcome to LibriVox, headphone!

Welcome to LibriVox, Roscoe!
Wow, you really ARE in-runc-ible! You started out SO quickly, yet settled right into a good rhythm by the middle of the first stanza. Good job!
