Hi philchenevert, just a heads up that I've now added a Description of this novel to the first posting for this topic (was previously "TBA"). Can you please copy this to the Project page?
With thanks,
Peter

PL of sections 9-11 is fine.

And what a haunting story it is: war time and pandemic. Just like today.

PS: I really enjoyed that Peter could put his many talents of acting, reading, and singing to the test.

I will take that as a GO and my kudos to everyone involved. Are you satisfied with the summary? If so, I will start validation tonight and get this beauty into our catalog.

Thanks very much, philchenevert, for your help with this project.

As always, a big thank you to my extremely loyal DPL, Sunrise2020.

Some additional special thanks for this one to Librivox Forum member alanmapstone, who first alerted me to this wonderful work (that is, to the whole, wonderful Parade's End tetralogy) and to listener Nancy, who alerted me to the fact that this third volume in the tetralogy was now PD, and encouraged me to read it. These audiobooks might end up sounding like they're the result of one person's labour, but in fact that's far from the case. Sometimes, as here, there's a whole network of connections behind a particular reading — and I'm aware we'll all riding on the shoulders of the original Librivox pioneers who set up this remarkable institution with its remarkably co-operative culture way back in the mists of time...

Hi Peter
Great to see these volumes in the LV catalogue.

Unfortunately you will have to wait until 2024 before you can record The Last Post and complete the whole thing. :(

Yes Alan, sadly so. I know some feel it’s not up to the predecessor volumes m, but I actually like it, for all its strangeness. Would be very satisfying to complete the whole project, DV, as they used to say in the old days.

The final volume has always been controversial. When Graham Greene edited the complete edition of Ford's works for Botley Head he treated The Last Post as a separate stand alone novel as he did not feel it should be part of Parade's End.
I think that Ford was experimenting with literary forms in this work (it was the age of James Joyce and Virginia Woolf) and not all the experiments were entirely successful but overall it is a phenomenal work.

Nice to know. Thank you. I think there’s a member of this forum who does those postings. It’s a great service, very worthwhile. 😀
