Celebrated Crimes, Vol. 4, Part 1: Karl-Ludwig Sand by Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870). Translated by George Burnham Ives (1856 - 1930)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/celebrated-crimes-vol-4-karl-ludwig-sand-by-alexandre-dumas-2/

This is the first part of the fourth volume of Alexandre Dumas' studies of celebrated crimes and their perpetrators. This volume is concerned with the story of Karl Ludwig Sand, who stabbed August von Kotzebue to death in 1819. August von Kotzebue had been a prominent dramatist, a student of Musäus, whose royalist and conservative writings ultimately led to his assassination by a member of a revolutionary liberal Burschenschaft. - Summary by Carolin

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

All set. We'll sit here until PattieMarie confirms she has seen this.
Note that we are no longer insisting on the 10 seconds at the end of the 30+ minute sections.

Sounds good to me, Lynnet :)

I've updated the title. After digging, it turns out that volume 4 consists of 3 different parts:
1) Karl-Ludwig Sand
2) Urban Grandier
3) Nisida.

As such, I called this project "Vol 4, Part 1"

Best,
John

You can do that, or add sections to include all of Volume 4, just breaking them verbally by saying "Part 1 Karl-Ludwig"... I would say it probably depends on how long the total is but if it were me, that is probably what I'd do. (I'm not always right though  )

Thanks Patty Marie, Lynne,

This was a relatively short, fascinating, story! I've completed a draft of all 4 sections for PL already :)

I thought about how I'd like to arrange the parts, and I like the idea of people being able to access each part of the multipart volume as a separate project. It also makes me feel like I'm accomplishing more ;) So, I'll next do the chapters of Vol 4, Part 2 (Urbain Grandier) as a new project.

Everyone interested in MC-ing and PL-ing that too?

Best!

Yes, I'm interested in dpl-ing Vol. 4 part 2.

Just found these and will get them done over the weekend if not sooner.

Sections 2 through 4 are PL OK, so this fascinating, moving and harrowing story is ready to go public.

I don't think the hero was as justified as Dietrich Bonhoeffer was when he participated in plot to assassinate Hitler and was hanged nine days before the prison he was in was liberated by allied troops, but it's interesting to know that there was a previous instance of a man of God doing the same thing with success though he likewise paid with his own life in the previous century.

John,
If you ever want to know more about the cover art, or who made the cover (in this case, Annise) you can click the link "download cd case insert" and it will give you more information than you knew you wanted
