Piano Tuning: A Simple and Accurate Method for Amateurs, by J. Cree (Jerry Cree) Fischer
This is a primer for anyone wishing to learn how to tune and maintain their own piano or to become a piano tuner. Written in 1907, it was targeted at a definite need for additional piano maintenance professionals in those days when pianos were almost ubiquitous. In addition, there are several chapters dealing with the theory and application of temperaments which will be of interest to any serious student of music. Please note that Concert Pitch as used in the book equates to A-454, considerably higher than today's standard of A-440. (Summary by JHedrick)
• This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/piano-tuning-a-simple-and-accurate-method-for-amateurs-by-jerry-cree-fischer/

Target completion date: 2021-12-31

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Preface is PL OK!

For the intro of subsequent sections, I would suggest dropping off the "J. Cree", keeping only the "Jerry Cree" (or vice versa), to avoid unnecessary repetition.

Optionally, you can also enter the duration of your files in the Notes field of the Magic Window.

Do you have a piano? :D

Thanks for the feedback! I can see I have much to learn. 8-) I also now know about the truncated disclaimer on solo projects.

Yes, I actually have two pianos as well as an electronic keyboard, although I do not play piano very well; I play bass as my primary instrument and double a bit on rhythm guitar. When I was still in high school and for a few years thereafter, I did tune pianos as part of my employment at a chain of music stores.

Next section (another short one) will be up today. Should I post here, or just update MW?

I still learn new things about Librivox, and about Audacity. There's always something new to learn! :D

I have two PL notes for section 1, on the optional side:
- one is that questions 4-6 aren't numbered in the recording
- second is that at 5:22 I hear "compromising" for "comprising"

Up to you if you want to edit any of the above.

Thanks - I have made those corrections and reuploaded. Funny thing is that I had the comprise/compromise error in my editing notes. I must have missed fixing it. New time is 6:19

You can also post in the thread whenever you upload a new file; I think it helps in keeping a good record of the project.
