Homage to John Dryden: Three Essays on Poetry of the Seventeenth Century, by T. S. Eliot (1888 - 1965)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/homage-to-john-dryden-by-t-s-eliot/

Volunteers outside the USA: T. S. Eliot died in 1965. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
Best known as a poet and playwright, Nobel Laureate T.S. Eliot also wrote many works of literary criticism. In this volume he gives us three essays: John Dryden, The Metaphysical Poets, and Andrew Marvell. Many quotations are given to illustrate his observations and analysis of these poets. This is an important work for those interested in gaining a deeper and broader knowledge of these seventeenth century poets and their influence. (Summary by Larry Wilson)

I'll be glad to set this up for you, Larry. Be right back with the MW.

Update: The MW is up. You know, these essays are exactly the kind of texts I like to sign up for: poetry criticism, quotations in French and Latin (with some typos to boot). The whole thing will be just over an hour long. I wouldn't mind reading all of it. Would you be ok with that, or do you prefer to have different voices, or read some of it yourself?

Michael!
How exciting to hear. I was a little concerned because of the date limiting our European members who would more likely be able to handle the French. I'd love to have you take the whole thing. :9: You can do the long intro for the preface and solo intro for the three essays. I'm just on a quick break from work, so I won't be able to set up the MW until later. But, this is good news!

Great! I'll set this up as a solo, but you are the BC and I will do my best to submit all the sections within 2 months. :)

Hi Larry
I would be happy to DPL this, but I suspect the copyright laws will probably exclude me.

Eliot was always an interesting commentator. I studied the metaphysical poets at school and have always had a particular liking for John Donne :)

Hi Alan,

The admin team verifies that we can use the source for a LV recording. Our contributors verify their personal compliance with the copyright laws of their country. We don't provide legal advice, but I suspect you are correct. :)

I was just wondering if LV has a view (policy) on the difference between reading and PLing?

I would be happy to DPL if it's determined that Alan is not able to. But I'm not sure the question was settled...

Well, the waters are still a little muddy, but with you as DPL, all will be clear, so if you are willing, I'll have Michael put you in. Thank you so much!

We don't. Our only policy regarding non-US copyright is that we leave it to our contributors to verify their personal compliance with their local laws. Here's the alert we have on every page of our catalog:
LibriVox recordings are Public Domain in the USA. If you are not in the USA, please verify the copyright status of these works in your own country before downloading, otherwise you may be violating copyright laws.
Sorry that I can't be more specific, but there's a reason why admins here don't want to be playing international copyright lawyers. Please let us know what you decide. If you still have questions, you're welcome to send me a PM. :)

Obviously the best solution is to let Jennifer be DPL for this project. Good luck.
