The Tale of a Tank And Other Yarns, by Harold Ashton (1875 - 1919)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-tale-of-a-tank-by-harold-ashton/
Harold Ashton was the War Correspondent of The Daily News during the First World War and reported extensively on the British army’s involvement in the conflict.

Whether working alongside the British troops that were fighting on the frontline or in the trenches or accompanying the massive logistics operation behind the lines – be it the transporting of munitions and supplies or seeing at first hand the work of the Royal Army Medical Corps – he reported on the successes and failures, the tragedies and victories over the course of the war.

But, this book of short stories shows another side of a war-weary reporter and another side of the war.

Ashton has created a diverse selection of yarns, some maybe based on a vague semblance of fact whilst others are pure fiction but all of them reflect classic British humour to some degree. (Summary by Steve C)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Craigdav1 has volunteered to MC & DPL so long as he can drive this rusty old heap and fire off a few shells for good luck! :)

Good suggestion! - I've edited the OP to amend the file name.

OK Dave - I've managed to start this Terrible Tank and both the tale and 'Topsy' are up and running!

So, it's over to you now to check it out & take it for a spin! :)

Be warned tho' - a bit of a wobble sets in at anything over 3 mph and she's really (*REALLY*) noisy especially when sending 'presents' to the 'other side'!

Cheers

Thanks for the PLing on Section 1, Dave - Section 2 now uploaded.

Because I'm incorporating a number of parts that make up the various stories over several sections, I would like to make it
clearer to the listener when one part has concluded and the next part commences within the particular section that they are
listening to.

So, for example in Section 2, when the end of Part 3 is reached (which is halfway through the section @ 21:30), I inform the listener with:

That concludes Part 3 of Topsy, The Tale of a Tank - The section continues with ... Part 4 etc etc

Then at the end of Part 4 (which is also the end of the whole section @ 41:34), the listener hears:

That concludes Part 4 of Topsy, The Tale of a Tank - and the end of Section 2

What would be your view on this?

(I'm happy to leave Section 1 as it is but to adopt the above wording for this and subsequent sections - provided you were OK with the suggestion).

Cheers

2 PL OK!

These are outros and intros to parts within a numbered section and as such seem ok.

Thanks for PLing 2 - Section 3 now uploaded.

Here, the British exhibit some deft cricketing skills on the back of the tank; whilst the Germans bring the Kaiser and his best mate Count Zeppelin, to the proceedings!

Thanks for PLing 4 - Section 5 now uploaded.

And now, with three stories for the price of only one section - it's got to be the bargain of the week!
