no I definitely don't think that ! Not Rigby !
I have a hunch who the Padini is too... the man Jack saw through the window of the music room?
 considering what the chapter title for section 9 is, you'll know we were both right. And we'll get to meet the mysterious housekeeper again. Chapter 9 is fresh from the press.

Thank you for the quick PL :) There is no hurry, as always.

Am I interpreting this correctly - he's saying Padini played a Chopin fantasie which was exactly the same as what Anstruther played... but he says what Anstruther played was a Choping nocturne :hmm: ....then later it was mentioned that Padini had played a Rhapsody in F? it's not important anyway, I think. White definitely knows how to build suspense, we're 9 chapters in and I feel like there are more mysteries now than at the start, and none of them solved. It's great stuff!

Nicely done. I liked your "stifled cry" at the end  also, I forgot to mention last time your "fake Cockney" was fun - he got clocked so easily with that Turkish cigarette.

All PL OK!
I didn't know if it was worth mentioning but, the way you're saying "Albert Hall" is perfectly understandable what you're referring to, I don't think you need to change it - but the "Al" in Albert, should rhyme more with "shall/gal" than "ball/call". It's so minor, and probably doesn't come up again anyway

hmmm well the titles were Nocturne and Fantasie, but Jack mentioned in both chapters that it's the Rhapsody in F. Do you know that song by any chance ?

ah thanks :) glad it wasn't too awful

oh ok, one more thing learnt. Albert rhyming on "gal" sounds so strange to me, well, I guess I never heard anybody actually say the name. I just checked the book, I think it only shows up 4 times, in those two chapters... I'll try to correct it and remember the pronunciation.

Don't worry, I'll find the correct spaces, but it would be good to note the time stamp immediately when you give me pronunciation corrections ;) easier to find back.

I'll put both chapters on PL notes until they're finished.

Thank you

ok, I managed to make good patches, I don't think you can hear much of a difference in sound :)

Here are the re-recordings that I did, the rest stays absolutely the same, so you only need to spot PL. Does it sound more accurate now ?

Chapter 8:

> from 10:22 to 10:26: (p. 65) "besides, he had promised to take Claire to a matinée concert at the Albert Hall"
> from 11:39 to 11:41: (p. 65) "till the Albert Hall was reached"

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/yellowface_08_white_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 14:16 min.

Chapter 9:
> from 3:57 to 3:58: (p. 69) "Albert Hall today"
> from 9:37 to 9:40: (p. 71) "and proceeded to wait till Padini left the Albert Hall"

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/yellowface_09_white_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 13:07 min.

Trying to record chapter 10 today 8-)

I managed to finish Chapter 10 :9: more of Serena, an interesting woman with a secret, and an interesting accent  Anstruther is now firmly at home in the baddie-corner I would say

And another cliff-hanger ... hope you enjoy !

Perfect! Seamless edits as well  sorry to cause you extra work - I think in most instances PLs would not comment on that kind of pronunciation, but I know you want to always be right. As it is a real place, and it's always pronounced in that way, I thought I would mention it. Spot PL OK

don't be sorry, this is what I wanted. I want to improve and say the things correctly. And yes, with a famous hall like that, it's important too.

I never mind edits and I think I got so good at it in the course of time because I was never too lazy to do them from the start. Practice makes perfect

These cliffhangers are getting to me  I was soooo tempted to turn the page, but I managed to restrain myself. I want everything to be new when I hear you speak it for the first time.
Well done! And congratulations on the milestone. There you were thinking it would take a year to complete! I know it will slow down soon, but still, I think you will be finished sooner than that :hmm:

we're totally hooked  you're just like me, I also want to keep the suspense. Though I must say, this chapter is somehow a let-down. I figured we would at least see a murdered body or some hideously disfigured person in the room, but it turns out to be quite non-shocking...you'll see.

Great stuff. What they found is quite intruiging... despite it being a bit anticlimactic. I'm assuming they're experimenting with electricity ... does it become a bit science fictiony?

If this was for anyone else, I'd say PL OK instantly. There was just one word which was a bit jarring - "menacing" (11:24, page 87) - the way you say it seems like "menASSing" rather than "MENussing". See here https://forvo.com/word/menacing/#en for examples.

I will leave it up to you - if you think it's close enough, I'll PL OK. If you wanna change it, go ahead.
I'm glad Anstruther is back

hm I thought it was some new way of how to do photography, the need to have a dark room for example. A bit like they develop photos from negatives even now, for those that don't use digital cameras  I don't know, maybe by the time the book was written this was still an uncommon practice ? :hmm:

 ok thanks, one more word I need to put on my "always wrongly pronounced" list. Guess I never used it that much in discussions  I definitely changed it, I want to sound accurate. So thank you for pointing it out. Happy to learn.

Here is the file ready for spot PL. I only re-recorded "in a menacing way", the rest stays entirely the same.

And Chapter 12 is uploaded. We finally get to hear the famous Padini. I hope my Italian accent is not too over-the-top  And Serena is not as meek as she seems but Anstruther seems positively evil. Our two friends end up in a bit of a tricky situation at the end.

Padini was great!
I don't think Jack and Rigby understand that Anstruther will outsmart them every time. They got themselves locked in by their own carelessness

Another great chapter. PL OK!
