The Return of Clubfoot, by Valentine Williams (1883 - 1946)

This project is now complete. All files can be downloaded from the catalog page here:https://librivox.org/the-return-of-clubfoot-by-valentine-williams/[/color]
Whilst spending a holiday in a small Central American Republic, Desmond Okewood, of the Secret Service, learns from a dying beachcomber of a hidden treasure.

With the assistance of a millionaire, he sets out for Cock Island, in the Pacific. To his astonishment he discovers that the Man with the Clubfoot, whom he had regarded as dead, has anticipated him. It is obvious to Okewood that his old enemy is also in search of the hidden gold, and there ensues a thrilling sequence of adventures, in which the millionaire's pretty daughter takes a prominent part.

Okewood has the cipher, and the Man with the Clubfoot determines to secure it, for without that cipher it is impossible to discover the hiding-place of the treasure; but there is something that the Man with the Clubfoot does not know, whereas Okewood does. (Summary by Original Gutenberg text)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Chapter 2 is good to go, PL OK!

P.S. I still have no access to the MW, so I'll mark them up, as soon as I do.

Cheers!

One note for Chapter 3 at 6:41 - In the German version of the 'song', the first verse goes "Primmer', Simmer' viel", and I heard "Flimmer, flammer viel"
Well done for the parts in german, they sound great!

Cheers!

The exchanges between Sir Alexander and Oakwood, really kept me on my toes! Can't wait for #6 :D

Also, Anne, could you please give me PL access to the MW, so I can mark the sections as we go? Tia :9:

The text I'm reading from is the ePub version, and it says "flimmer flammer". The html version it's "primmer simmer". Weird. And none of it is German. (I studied German for 2 years in HS). Must have been some strange character substitution. Anyway, I made the edit.

Chapter 6 also ready for PL.

Either character substitution or some sort of slang I'm guessing. Who knows :) Chapter 3 is good to go, PL OK!
