JĀTAKA TALES, by H. T. Francis (1837 - 1924) and E. J. Thomas (1869 - 1958)

This project is now complete.  All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

Volunteers outside the USA: E. J. Thomas died in 1958. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
Jātaka tales are ancient Indian folktales that form a part of Buddhist teaching, telling stories of the Buddha’s past lives. Akin to Aesop’s fables, some strikingly similar, they urge the listener to moral behavior and often, more than that, point a way to real insight. (Summary by Scotty Smith)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is a pretty long book, maybe around 16 hours finished. Since many of the stories are short, I am thinking to put up to 4 in a section, but still attempt to keep sections averaging around 20 minutes to make it easier to find individual stories. That is how I came up with 47 total sections.

That's fine Scotty. You can always adjust the number of sections as you go along. I'll MC for you. MW will be up shortly.

Thank you so much! I’ll upload the first section or 3 in a bit for any potential PLer to see if they can stay awake listening to my reading

Haha yes, I’d be awful at sales. That’s okay; as long is this will likely be for me to record and edit, I should be around awhile. Can wait 8-)

Hello, Scotty.

Just one PL note on Section 4.

~ 05:34 I think I can hear something like"net" after the word "safety":
"There's no safety net..."

(Something to mention just in passing: while the first three sections use the long intro, section 4 uses the short version. I know there is no problem with that, according to what is stated in the template. I only mention it in case you had meant for all of the sections to have the long intro.)

This is an enjoyable book! :D

Regards,

Jasna
