Fixed and reuploaded Chapter 5. Besides your notes, I re-recorded the French letter to fix a couple of errors in pronunciation that Garonne found.

Chapter 5 is PL OK, and here's chapter 6. Ohohoho, oh dear, Sir Francis...

0:48—'March 24'—I would read this as 'March the 24th'. EDIT: Jo tells me 'March the 24th' isn't allowed by Librivox, so I would go with 'March 24th' instead. Then similarly with 'March 27' at 2:42 and 'March 30' at 3:28

2:41—'Grosvenor'—this is very nearly right, and it's correct at 18:49, but to be sure; the last syllable should be a schwa

17:22—'Stoneleigh', as before

10:12—'stuccoed over the end of the last century', text has 'stuccoed over at the end...'

10:52—'strong, confident...', text has 'strong, self-confident'

18:58—the words 'smiled together over her anxiety' are after 'Juliana and her betrothed' in the text, rather than at the end of the sentence

March 24 is fine, March 24th is OK, but not March the 24th. That is adding a word that is not in the text.

Huh, I wouldn't have thought of it that way, just as expanding an abbreviation—but if those are the rules then that's fine!

Thanks! Sir Francis getting dumped is very satisfying. : )

Can't fix chapter 6 while I'm on the sailing boat. But I have an editing backlog which I can work on, so here's chapter 7.

Also, re: "betrothed" in chapter 5, I'm pretty sure I usually say it with two syllables. But with "betrothed's", the th-d-s combination was a little much for me, so I think that's why I inserted the "e"...

And here is chapter 8, as well. : )

I know there's a phrase missing at 20.10, "the inquisitors seemed scarcely to expect ".

Ah, that's fair—yes, while searching through the text I noticed several 'betrothed's in previous chapters which you'd pronounced correctly!

Here's chapter 7:

The intro is missing, and there's a bit of noise in the first few seconds.

4:38 and 4:40—'quixotic'—confusingly, this is not pronounced like the name Quixote, but more phonetically in English spelling, 'quick-sot-ic'

8:15—'Norfolk'—again, this is fairly pedantic, but the second syllable should have an unstressed schwa

8:52—'conspirator' has the stress on the second syllable

9:12—'compass'—the first vowel is a short U sound like in 'cut', the second is an unstressed schwa

6:36, 10:37, 26:56, 28:03—'caserne'—the S is pronounced like a Z

15:22—'intelligible' has the stress on the second syllable (like 'intelligent')

28:55—'fosse'—the E is silent

2:18—'a great deal of activity', text has 'a good deal'

9:18—'on the stockade', text has 'against the stockade'

26:23—'all three of them alive', text has 'all three still alive'

27:23—'any of their corner', text has 'any from their corner'

(looking up all these words while prooflistening is good for my vocabulary—'caserne' and 'fosse' were both new to me :D)

Thank you! : )

Here is chapter 9 as well, and that's my backlog of editing done. No hurry with the prooflistening, I won't be able to record in a week or so.

OK, here is section 8...

0:12—'chapter eleven' should be chapter two!

9:05—'you can remember nothing of the circumstances', text has 'you can recall nothing...'

13:05—'after relapsing into', text has 'before'

14:35—'incensed' is another one with the stress on the second syllable as a verb

19:56—'negligible' has the stress on the first syllable

20:11—the words 'the inquisitors seemed scarcely to expect' are missing

20:43—'would really be extracted', text has 'exacted'

21:10—'Job's'—the name (unlike the word) has a long O sound, like 'lobe'

28:54—'too sore in spirits', text has 'spirit'

29:29—'the restraint catch his wrists', text has 'constraint'

35:24—'...the moon, Wanklin?', text has 'Mr Wanklin'

Chapter 6 is fine, apart from 'Juliana and her betrothed smiled together over her anxiety...' at 18:58—is this sentence in the order you've read it in here in the edition you're reading from?
