The Golden Bough. A Study in Magic and Religion. Part 2. Taboo and the Perils of the Soul, by James Frazer (1854 - 1941)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-golden-bough-part-2-by-james-frazer/
The third volume of The Golden Bough. The term Taboo is one of the very few words which the English language has borrowed from the speech of savages. This volume examines the underlying moral code of many societies, both primitive and medieval, and with modern analogies. The reader is encouraged to contemplate the contradictions, inconsistencies, and absurdities, not merely between different people of different countries and ages, but also between similar people within the same countries. Frazer presents extensive evidence that the laws of morality slowly, but subtly, are in an ever changing state. (Summary by Leon Harvey)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I begin to listen to section 0 and I hear that the intro differs pretty well from the disclaimer`s one:
For the first section, say:

"Section (or Chapter) # of The Golden Bough. A Study in Magic and Religion. Part 2. Taboo and the Perils of the Soul. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit librivox.org." [Optional: "Read by your name."] "The Golden Bough. A Study in Magic and Religion. Part 2. Taboo and the Perils of the Soul, by James Frazer, translated by leon harvey. Section Title."

For the second and subsequent sections, you may use the shortened intro if you wish:

"Section (or Chapter) # of The Golden Bough. A Study in Magic and Religion. Part 2. Taboo and the Perils of the Soul, by James Frazer, translated by leon harvey. This LibriVox recording is in the public domain." [Optional: "Read by your name."] "Section Title."
Moreover, there`s the same issue in section 1... Is it okay, perhaps?
Thanx! πŸ§‘

It will take a good piece of time & efforts to me to transcribe it… Meantime, you can easily hear it just in few seconds, in audio… Am I right?

It's not my job, but I'll do it anyway. Next time, please do transcribe it.

Preface missing LV disclaimer: "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit librivox.org."

The rest of the variation in the files can be dismissed, since they have all the elements required (albeit in a different order).

Hi! πŸ––

Where do you read Preface`s pages between v and viii from? For I don`t find them in any format there!
many different names and with many variations of detail, to
build up the complex fabric of society in all the various sides or elements of it which we describe as religious, social
{GAP}
should do injustice, perhaps gross and irreparable injustice,
to the prisoners at the bar.
Thanx!

Sec 01 PL notes:

In accordance to LV disclaimer, you should change "goldenbough3" in file`s name to "goldenbough2".

Missing intro`s information:
A Study in Magic and Religion. Part 2.,

07:47 - teeth and claws of leopards – I don`t hear β€œleopards”

All the rest is Okay.

PS: it has been you to translate this book, Leon? Ku:l! Congratulations, you`re great! 🌟

Oops - there should be no translator in the introduction. There is a glitch in the project setup for people using Chrome, and it sometimes puts in a translator when there shouldn't be one. :) I've removed that wording from the first post.

goldenbough2 has already been used in a previous project. This series of books is in "parts" which coveres a couple of volumes a few times, so this is actually the 3rd volume in the golden bough series
