Source text (please read only from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uva.x000242169&view=1up&seq=1Loosely based on a true story, this is the tale of Clyde Griffiths. Book 1 follows Clyde as a teenager, who, after taking a job at a luxurious hotel, is quickly seduced by a lifestyle of alcohol, money, and extravagance. After leaving Kansas City under less-than-desirable circumstances, he struggles to make his own way in the world after losing everything. In upstate New York, Clyde meets his wealthy extended family and is consumed with a desire to move in social circles with the rich and prosperous. His dreams are complicated when he meets Roberta, a beautiful but poor young woman from his job. As their relationship proceeds down a dark path, Clyde has to choose between true love and social status. This is Volume 1 of 2. (Summary by Tatiana Chichilla)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
