In the Garden of Delight, by Lily Hammond (1859 - 1925)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/in-the-garden-of-delight-by-lily-hammond/
This novel is narrated in the first person and revolves around a character named Lil (somewhat autobiographical of the author) and the dynamics of a colorful cast of family members. She loves nature and, especially, birds, and thus the title. The story is set in Tennessee. The writing is very much a product of its place and time. Hammond was quite socially progressive but some of the language she puts into the mouths of characters and the depiction of African Americans may be upsetting to some readers. (Summary by )
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/63729

Target completion date: 2021-05-30

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Oh, and I added a tilde to the title to announce that we are looking for a DPL.

Hi
Yes, I am here. I’m about 1/2 way through recording. One thing—even though her full name is Lily Hardy Hammond, she goes by L.H. Hammond on the cover of book on publication, so I guess that is how it should be listed? Please remind me, do I send one chapter at a time or can I send the whole thing at once when done?
Thx

Hi Katie. The normal process is for the soloist to fill in the Magic Window with section titles as a first step. We are waiting in the Launch Pad in hopes of picking up a DPL (dedicated proof listener) to listen to all sections. Then we will move to Going Solo, another forum to keep the Launch Pad tidy. After that you are free to work at your own pace, uploading each section when you have completed editing it or a whole bunch at a time. We have found it best to get at least one section listened to and approved to avoid having to redo a bunch of sections for some mistake. Not necessary but prevents problems. You as BC are responsible for updating the magic window. If this is your first time, let me know and I'll send a video. :D

Thank you. Any info or videos you can send me would be helpful, as I’m a bit confused as to steps to take.
Katie.

You are doing great so far! Just be patient and all will fall into place. Here is a video on the magic window https://youtu.be/_cDPSmlTjGM . Please ask if anything is confusing.

Hi there!

I would be happy to DPL on the one condition that the Chapters/Sections are added as they are finished (PL'd yourself first) and not in massive amounts all at once.

Thank you Lynda. I have moved this to Going Solo. Hopefully the soloist will check in soon.
EDIT: I am having trouble adding Kathan54 as a BC to the data base. it won't take for some reason. Perhaps tomorrow it will update.

Hi, all:
Thanks you, Lynda! Is it ok if I send a couple of chapters at a time, instead of just one? I will watch video and do Magic Window soon.

Hi Katie. I think it is really important that you record one chapter, completely edit it and upload it for prooflistening before jumping into multiple chapters. Please do this and I promise we will give you feedback quickly. Trust me, it will be for the best.
EDIT: Just a reminder that you are responsible for editing your recordings into a finished state before uploading them. They should be ready to publish; free of stumbles, repeats and anything that will detract from the recording. In other words, ready to go. You have never edited a file yet and after doing it once or twice it may change the way you record. I am just trying to save you work and trouble later on.

Kathan, could you please give me more information on how the Maigic Window system is blocking you? what error message do you get or at what stage does it occur?
