Holmes' Own Story, by Herman W. Mudgett (1861 - 1896)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/holmes-own-story-by-herman-w-mudgett/
An account written by the infamous serial murderer H. H. Holmes in an attempt to exonerate himself while being tried for numerous crimes in Moyamensing Prison, Philidelphia. (Summary by Autumn)
Source text (please read only from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/64249

Target completion date: 2021-05-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is set up. :)

Question: In this template, you put that you want to be known in the catalog as Anautumnous. Your catalog name (what displays on projects when they're cataloged) is Autumn. Do you want this changed, or do you want to stick with Autumn?

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here: Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first two sections for you as an example. You can fill in the rest. (This doesn't appear to have natural chapter/section breaks, so I just put in Section 1 and Section 2. Feel free to change them.)

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Thank you! I'm so excited to begin my first solo. I'd like to change it to anautumnous if I could; does that change my previous catalog posts as well? Totally fine if not.

It won't change posts, but it'll change the pages on finished projects. :)

You will need to put them into the Magic Window. I posted links to instructions on how to do that. :) Holler if you have questions!

Looks good! Do put the run times in the Notes field; I use them at cataloging time to be sure the files are transferred okay through the cataloging process. :)

I’m not sure if I’m in charge of selecting PLs, but I’d love to have your help! If you’re concerned about the content, don’t worry it’s not very graphic.

Oh! Sorry - it's nice to get the soloists' okay, but I was remiss in not acknowledging and adding Kevin in. :)

Haha! I listened already and found that the man is mad but not gory. That is, in his account of things.

All three of the sections (1, 2, and 3) require very little work. All three need to have the opening silence reduced to between .5 and 1 seconds and the closing silence needs to be a full 5 seconds (and no more.)

Section 2, if my notes are correct, has a repeat at 1:42.

And that's it! Good work!
