History of Animals by Aristotle (384 BCE - 322 BCE). Translated by Sir D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson (1860 - 1948) & Richard Cresswell

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/history-of-animals-by-aristotle/
(Greek: Τῶν περὶ τὰ ζῷα ἱστοριῶν, Ton peri ta zoia historion, "Inquiries on Animals"; Latin: Historia Animalium, "History of Animals")

Book I Grouping of animals and the parts of the human body.
Book II Different parts of red-blooded animals.
Book III Internal organs.
Book IV Animals without blood (invertebrates).
Books V & VI Animal reproduction.
Book VII Human reproduction.
Book VIII Habits (food, migration, health, diseases).
Book IX Social behavior.
Book X Dealing with barrenness in women was excluded from the translation of D'Arcy Thompson for being spurious so the translation of the Clergyman Richard Cresswell (Vicar of Salcombe Regis, Devon) is used instead.

Sir D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson was a biologist, mathematician and classicist who also wrote On Growth and Form which discusses the mathematical patterns and structures formed in plants and animals. (Adapted from Wikipedia by Geoffrey Edwards)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW coming up.

edit: It's your decision but your might mention the book number only in the intro and outro of the first and last chapters of each book. As to the footnotes, I would suggest only including the absolutely most important ones in the text (at the appropriate location). They will disrupt the flow of the text.

Hi David. Would you please Delete the Section 0 from the project. There will be a Preface but having a Section 0 throws off all the numbering on the Internet Archive page. When making the project it slipped my mind that by Selecting 'Yes' to preface it creates a Section 0. Sorry to create extra work for you. It was my mistake. 🧛

Perfect. Thanks for removing Section 0 David. Having Section 0 looks great on the Librivox page but on the Internet Archive they number sections differently so if there is a Section 0 then Internet Archive calls it Section 1 and then Section 1 is called Section 2 by the Internet Archive and so on.

Book X is really short so it would be nice to include it in this recording even if it's by another translator.

Here's the link to the other text: https://archive.org/details/aristotleshistor00aris_0/page/n3/mode/2up

We can worry about the catoging issue in the future. It's been a busy day. 🧛

I can add a second text link. We need to give it a label though (Online text2, Online Book 10 text or ???). The main text is always labelled "Online text."

Let's do that second text link like you suggested please. 🧛

Whichever label you think is clear. Both of your suggestions sound fine. 🧟

Thank You 🧛

Do you think it is better to say 'Book 1 Chapters 1 to 3' of History of Animals or 'Chapters 1 to 3 of Book 1' of History of Animals?

2 PL OK!

Either is fine. I'd be consistent though. Good stuff!
