FYI: After checking with the physical book, it seems the author kept mixing up the St. Louis Nationals (his fictitious pro baseball team) with the St. Louis Cardinals (the real pro baseball team) throughout the book (possibly because the Cardinals were a National League team). Since the producer of the ebook did not make changes for this, I followed along and kept the discrepancies.

The author, who knows much more about 1910's baseball than I, began using actual major league ball clubs once Joe Matson got to the pros. So Joe was indeed hoping to be drafted to the St. Louis Cardinals, a National League ball club. Apparently, the team was also known as the St. Louis Nationals, to distinguish them from the St. Louis Browns, a baseball club in the American League, at the time. In a future chapter (which I was recording), the author refers to the Pittsburgh Pirates (another National League team) as the Pittsburgh Nationals.

I was confused as I've never heard of today's New York Yankees (American League) and New York Mets (National League) referred to as New York Americans and New York Nationals, respectively.
