Partial Portraits by Henry James (1843 - 1916).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on the catalog page

https://librivox.org/partial-portraits-by-henry-james/
In this book, writer Henry James gives wonderful and probing insights into the lives and works of many famous and interesting writers, some known personally by him. We see into the creative workings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, George Eliot, Anthony Trolloppe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Constance Fennimore Woolson, Alphonse Daudet, Guy De Maupassant, Ivan Turgenieff and George duMaurier. ( Rita Boutros)

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58471
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you!
I've already taken a look at the table of contents and realize I'll have to break up several of the chapters to a more manageable size. If you can add me to the admin, I'll go ahead and input the info once you've set up the MW.

Thanks again, Rita

I've set up the sections and wanted to provide an explanation to whoever will PL so they will see there is some rhyme and reason in how I am naming parts: In places where I've created a division within the chapter, I call it "part 1", "part 2" etc.

In places where the author has created a division, I call it "section I", "section II" etc. I hope this helps.

I think what you have in the MW is fine. See if the following works for you - if so, it can be copied to the top post in place of the standard text.

START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] Part (or section) [number] of Partial Portraits. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"Partial Portraits, by Henry James. [Chapter Title from the MW]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] Part (or Section) [number] of Partial Portraits by Henry James. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"[Chapter title from MW]"

END of recording:
At the end of the section, say:
"End of [Chapter Number, Part (or section) Number]"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Partial Portraits, by Henry James. "

Section 01 has been added to the MW.

Just a note about use of "quote" and "end quote": I only say that for larger, more extended quotations to set it apart from the text. Smaller quotes, or where it is obvious, I leave it out.

Thanks, and please don't hesitate to let me know if anything at all needs correction.

That's how I usually do the quotes as well. :)

I'm going to move the thread to Going Solo. You can advertise for a DPL in Listeners Wanted. If you haven't done this before, you can the template and directions in the wiki:

Well, I've posted something in Listeners Wanted, but I think I made a mess of it. Would you mind checking this? Never did this before obviously... :D :help:
