A Little Girl in Old Philadelphia by Amanda Minnie Douglas (1831 - 1916).

Part of the "Little Girl" stories by Amanda M. Douglas. The story of a young girl living in Old Philadelphia, and her adventures. Will revise after the book is complete ( Shriya)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://gutenberg.org/ebooks/28648
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

24 Sections, one for each chapter. I plan to finish this as a soloist before December. Thanks!

(and I'm assuming I need an MC and DPL before I start to record(or just an MC))

You may start recording, but you just won't be able to upload till you have an MC. About a DPL, sometimes an entire book is uploaded before one comes along. So unless you want input before doing a bunch of recording, I'd say go for it.

Have fun! :)

Thanks everyone! Yes, this is a big book, but I'll see if I can attempt it. I might be gone for a few days, but I'll upload the first chapter right now. Thanks!

(Any DPL that comes is most welcome)

I have the second chapter too, but I want to edit it first before I upload.

Do we stay in the New Projects Launch Pad until we find a DPL?

For a few days at least. A lot of potential DPLs browse this forum.

I should advise you that we normally just put the author's last name in the exported file; douglas instead of miniedouglas. Since you have only done two files already I think it best if you export those two files again, (and watch the spelling of the last name; file 02 is misspelled.) So just export them as littlegirlinoldphiladelphia_02_douglas_128kb or 01 as the case may be.

Ok, got it, thanks.

Edit: All done. Thanks. (I've done a chapter from one of these series before, and I used douglas in that case too, so thanks for the correction)

Hi Shriya -

Would you like me to DPL for you?

I am a bit busy this weekend catching up as I have been away for a week; I can listen to your recordings early next week if you wish.

Hi Shriya -

I had some time this morning to listen to your first chapter - you are an excellent reader!

I just have a couple of pieces of feedback - please let me know if you need any help with making these edits -

12:26 – text says “been a halcyon time” – I heard “halikshine” – try this pronunciation - hal·see·uhn or (ignoring “The” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFZSsPVBbWo)
16:57 – conscience – I heard conscience (which is how it is spelled) however it is pronounced https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfDrZLfP4H8 😊 It is a tricky word!
18:36 – the word knowledge is not fully pronounced – can you please re-record the word?

That is all!

I am not sure if anyone has told you the trick in editing a recording yet - that is to start at the bottom of the list of feedback and work upwards. That way the times that I give you will not change for the earlier pieces of feedback. If you start at the top, then any edits made will affect the times going down and it can get confusing....

I look forward to checking your edits when you get to them - no hurry! We are doing this at your pace.

Lynda
