Eastern Stories and Legends by Marie Louise Shedlock (1854 - 1935).

A collection of short stories of eastern myths and legends.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/57380
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I have set this up for you.
I have edited the text source. Your link was to Chapter 2 only. When setting up projects, we use the main gutenberg link (so readers can choose their method of reading).

I see you are new to BCing. I have added you to the list of BCs and will walk you through the setup.

First of all, near the top of the first post, probably to the right but it may be fairly central, depending on your browser, you will see a stubby little pencil icon. That is so you can edit the first post.

A few things to note:

Have you lined up a DPL? If not, you should add a tilde (~) to the subject line. If you have someone in mind, I will need to give him/her access to the MW. Don't worry if you have no one in mind. Someone will volunteer.

Secondly, at some point, you will need to edit the summary. What you have is fine for now.

Next, that whole section on id tags can be deleted. It's a throwback to our old software and anything you enter gets over-written. And it can cause problems at cataloguing... I've only had problems a couple of times, but I had to go through deleting them all (which took ages!)

You can change the file name at this point, and I would suggest shortening it to easternstories

I will give you instructions for the MW in a separate post, but if you have questions, please ask.
Lynne

Here are the instructions for logging in to the MW. It is the same for a DPL as for a BC. Please note, this only gives you access to the MW for projects where you are DPL or BC.

Accessing the System – First Time Login
1. Use this Link to go the main login screen: http://librivox.org/workflow
2. Click on Login (for BCs & MCs)
3. Enter your forum username.
4. Click “Forgot Password”
5. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. Click the link and enter a password and submit the form. (Note this should be more secure than your 'regular' password)
6. Go back to the main login screen and use the new password you entered above to log in to the system.
7. When you log in from the main screen above, you will be taken to the LibriVox Management Dashboard default screen where you should see a list of your active projects along with options for dropdown menus, searching and editing your profile. (more on this later)
For more explicit step by step directions with screen shots, please see Accessing the System - First Time Login
NOTE: BCs should use their personal workflow login to upload files. If you recently logged in with the general login to upload files to a project and the system still had you logged in, you may see this:
You don't have permissions for this area.
Return to Librivox Management Tool Homepage
Logout
To remedy this, click Logout and then login with your BC login and password.

Please note, this doesn't always work the first time.

If you are still having trouble after 3 or 4 attempts, PM knotyouraveragejo

The MW is probably straightforward...
I started entering the titles, to show you how it's done. No need for chapter numbers. Hit enter when you have finished typing. I was able to copy them from the text and paste them in the relevant section. I'm not sure about the capitalization... you may want to edit that

The notes column is where you put the time for each file. In this column, you have to 'save'. To start, it is a good idea to put word counts, so readers know what they are signing up for  The way I do it is to open GoogleDocs and go through chapter by chapter, pasting the chapter into the doc, and using the 'tools'/word count to determine each one. No need to keep the chapters in the doc.
When readers volunteer, enter them by selecting 'assign reader sections'. Start typing the reader's forum name and you will see a drop-down menu. It is a matter of some irritation among everyone, that if you start typing 'a', you get everyone whose name has an 'a' in it, and you don't always get time to enter the whole name :? Just keep trying... and you may have to delete letters to get the dropdown menu. Then just select the right person. As for sections, you can enter 01-03 or 01, 02, 03. I recommend using the leading zero.
I'll give you instructions on new readers if it comes up.

Paste your URL from the uploader in the Listen URL column, hit enter. The Link column is automatically populated when you do this.

The status column is a drop-down menu. It will automatically change to 'assigned' when you fill in a reader's claims, but you will need to change it to 'ready for PL' or 'ready for spot PL'.

Paste the link to any files in the Listen URL column. Hit enter to save.

I think that's it. Any questions, please ask.
Have fun!

I am bit confused by the source of the summary, the book has a Forward and a Editor's Preface do I take the summery from one of these ? or write my own ?

I'd like to read chapters 1-3. I'm not sure if it's a project for only one person. I'm new to this forum.

It’s up to you exactly how you approach the summary, but remember you are trying to attract readers and later listeners. If you take it from an outside source, it needs to be PD (I.e. not Wikipedia).

Julian added as DPL.

So your first claimant is a new reader... talk about jumping in at the deep end!

First, click on the persons name to see If he/she has completed their one minute test. If not, tell them to do it first... and I always add a link (although this was included in the welcome message, many don’t bother to read that)

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Next you will need to add them to the catalog.
Go to the Magic Window, and you will see “add new reader”. Click on that. In the first field, type in the forum name (it’s case sensitive). In the second field, you put their catalog name. If they have t given one, just retype the forum name. You’ll see there’s also a spot for a website... that’s only for a personal website or blog... no selling allowed

Once you have added them, you can add them to the MW as laid out above. Your decision, but I’d recommend only giving new readers 1 section at a time. I also add the date of claim in the notes section (forgot to mention that before...)

Any problems, let me know. I can do all the above, but I think it’s best to learn by doing 8-)

Please add the file length to the notes column. It’s used for verification.
