[SOLO] A Short History of Germany by Mary Platt Parmele (1843 - 1911).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-short-history-of-germany-mary-parmele/

Mary Platt Parmelle brings to life the history of Germany and it's rise to prominence in Europe. From scheming nobles to treaties created under the guise of peace, the reader is transported to the years before a cohesive group of city-states that became Germany. She shows us how the power of the Catholic church stoked the fires of revolution, and caused the great schism between the Catholic people and the newly forming Protestant sects. The book begins by discussing the origins of the Aryan race (framed as describing people of Indo-European heritage as a racial grouping, or distinctive race/sub-race of the Caucasians) and ends around 1871 when Germany was united after the fall of Napoleon.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/34397
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW coming up.

edit: I cleaned up the template a bit. Part of the author's name was in the title field. Let me know if any other changes are needed. Do you want to advertise for a DPL? I'm tempted but would defer to anyone who offered.

Sorry I have been away from this for a few days, just recovering from being sick all week. I will keep an eye out for another DPL and I so appreciate your initial offer April. :D

The section titles will be truncated at the Archive.org site and on most mp3 players because of their length. I believe they will appear in full on the LV site when the book is "published." There's not much you can do about it but I wanted you to know. The section and chapter numbers appear to be identical so it will be easy for anyone to know which chapter they are listening to by looking at the file number.

Thank you, I was wondering about that. Some of them are going to be like reading an entire paragraph just to list off all the people/places from the chapter! I also added a section for the Preface, that wasn't in my original submission. I hope that won't throw anything off.
