In The Magnificent Adventure-Being the Story of the World's Greatest Exploration and the Romance of a Very Gallant Gentleman, by Emerson Hough, the author takes us back to the dawning years of the United States of America. Forever tormented, he accepts the duty asked by his President.Preparing to depart on one of the greatest adventures in the history of modern man, Meriwether is challenged to cease by none other than the woman whom he loves so dearly. Secretly doing so on her father’s behalf, Theodosia pleads for Meriwether to end the great adventure before it even begins. Her father, Aaron Burr, the Vice President of the United States and his foreign conspirators must stop the expedition at all costs. The story follows the expedition of Lewis and Clark. Detailing the overwhelming adversity of the men involved in this great adventure. From launching their boats in Pittsburgh, to embedding the American flag on the turbulent beaches of the great State of Oregon.Lewis and Clark return in victory. Return to honor and fame. For completing such a daunting task they are both awarded appointment to high office in payment of their sacrifice. But, the melancholy of Meriwether Lewis continues. Now Governor of the Louisiana territory, Meriwether embarks on his final journey. A journey that ends in mystery… (Summary by Claude Stewart)

If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Claude and Lynette,
I will MC this for you. You are ready to go so I'll move you to Going Solo.
It sounds like a good book.
Cheers,
Amy

Thanks Amy.

There are 33 chapters. However, they are in two parts. Part one has 14 and part two nineteen.

Okay, in that case the script can be updated to say Part and Chapter. Can I help with anything?

Hello again, Lynette. Hope all is well.

I finished Chapter 1. As you probably know, I'm a bit self conscious with voices. Especially when its a woman's voice. I just don't want it to sound foolish and ruin the book for perspective listeners. So, please let me know if its okay or, if I should re-record.

Thanks

Claude

Ok, I'll let you know about the voices honestly. It may take me a couple days to get to this file - got back in town yesterday, and I'm loading everything that came in while I was away.

Hey, Claude! Chapter 1 is PL OK

Your voicing for his mother is just fine. Actually, your voice(s) and reading style are perfect for this kind of book.

Poor guy - I didn't know, before, about his never marrying or the nature of his death. Had to look him up after that passage where she's condemning him to never being loved and married. That was kinda a funny passage, made me crack up with his, "Mother!" after she was so detailed in her description.

Thanks Lynette.

Yes, Meriwether Lewis did not enjoy a good life. Given some nice positions however, he was quite distraught by the end. Some say suicide some say robbery and murder. Unfortunately, we'll never know.

Chapter 3 ready.

Hi Lynette, need some advice please.

A lot more dialog than narration in this book. My inexperience is showing, unfortunately.

I'll be recording dialog from Thomas Jefferson. I did some research on his voice. The historians say he had a higher pitched voice and a slight stutter. If you ever watched the movie, The Kings Speech with Colin Firth and Jeffery Rush. Jefferson sounded very similar to the King in that movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcxBrTvLbBM

So my question, should I try to record the voice like that or, make it less pronounced?

Thank you.

Wow! I'm impressed with your research thoroughness. Scott and I both enjoyed The King's Speech, particularly since Scott has had a stutter ever since going through a childhood bout of meningitis.

I think that LibriVox would not want us to read a stutter where it hasn't been written in. It looks like the author was either unaware of that fact, or ignored it. I would definitely pitch the voice higher, though, since we know it was that way.
