Holy Bible (American Standard Version).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/holy-bible-complete-american-standard-version/
What can be said? It's the ASV Bible, copyrighted 1901 by Thomas Nelson & Sons. I have previously recorded the New Living Translation of the Bible and would now like to do this version in order to make the Holy Scriptures more available on Librivox. ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.biblegateway.com/versions/American-Standard-Version-ASV-Bible/#booklist
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "[Book name], Chapters [numbers] of The Holy Bible. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"The Holy Bible, American Standard Version. [Book and Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "[Book name], Chapters [numbers] of The Holy Bible, American Standard Version. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Book and Chapter]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Holy Bible, American Standard Version. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename bible_###_asv_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ### is the section number (e.g. bible_001_asv_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: TriciaG
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

    Any questions?

Projects can only have up to 255 sections. (Archive.org can't handle more than that.)

How about breaking this up into separate books or groups of books? You could possibly start with the ones that haven't been recorded yet: https://librivox.org/author/187

Thank you for your input. My purpose was to record the entire Bible, so I came up with that number using each chapter as a section. Suppose we divide it into the 8 accepted sections, which would be: Sect. 1 - "The Law" Genesis - Deuteronomy
Sect 2 - "History" Joshua - Esther
Sect 3 - "Poetry" Job - Song of Solomon
Sect 4 - "Prophecy" Isaiah - Malachi
Sect 5 - "Gospels" Matthew - John
Sect 6 - "New Test. History" Acts
Sect 7 - "Epistles" Romans - Jude
Sect 8 - "Prophecy" Revelation

Umm... except each section needs to be about 74 minutes or less, to fit on an audio CD if/when people want to burn it to CD. :? I'm sorry for not mentioning this earlier, also.

Someone recorded the whole KJV. He simply divided them into about an hour each, but still kept the books separate. Maybe you could do something like that. Here's the catalog page for that one: https://librivox.org/bible-complete-king-james-version/

Gargantuan project, either way. I'd recommend cataloging chunks of this at a time as separate projects rather than keeping it as one big project. It's a psychological boost to have parts of it released as one goes along, and then listeners can access it sooner rather than having to wait until it's all done. However that choice is ultimately yours. :)

Yeah, I hadn't thought of the possibility of people burning it to CD. Ok, so let's make it 127 sections and I'll follow the chapter grouping used in your recommended link.

There would be a bit of leeway from using that as a solid example. For instance, Joshua had 3 sections: 1:04, 1:06, and 23 min. One could perhaps have evened them out a bit, depending on the chapter lengths. And it also depends on your reading speed, of course.

Do what you think is best.

I'll get this set up for you shortly.

In Bible projects, we use the translation as the author. I'll fix up the first post to reflect this. :)

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here: Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first two sections for you as an example. You can fill in the rest.

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Thanks for all your help, Tricia. I'm a complete newbie as far as solo work is concerned! If all goes well, I may be able to finish ahead of schedule. It took me nearly 18 months to
record the NLT version, but I had a number of interruptions plus having to look up a ton of pronunciations. Should go smoother this time.... :)

Question, Tricia....
How much space should I have between chapters in the section files? I'm assuming it's less than the required 5 seconds at the end of individual files.

Yeah, less than that.

I don't know how your pacing is on the rest of the text, but if I had to throw a dart at the wall, I'd say somewhere between 1.5 and 2 seconds.

Great!

Please also put the file duration in the Notes field in the Magic Window. I'll use those at cataloging time to be sure the files at Archive.org are correct. :)
