Moments With Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) Selected by Albert Bigelow Paine.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/moments-with-mark-twain-by-mark-twain/
These selections from the works of Mark Twain are presented in chronological order. They include the memorable whitewashing of the fence in "Tom Sawyer", events preceding the Mississippi River raft journey in "Huckleberry Finn", a dark moment during the exchange of identities in “The Prince and the Pauper”, and reflections of “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”. A critic wrote of another excerpt concerning a feud, "...as dramatic and powerful an episode as I know in modern literature." Also included are comments about travel abroad, Joan of Arc, a generous helping of Twain’s renowned quips, and mortality. (Lee Smalley)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Our MW is ready for you! But, I am wondering if we might tweak the intro a little bit. Maybe something like, "Moments with Mark Twain, by Mark Twain, selected by Albert Bigelow Paine." Or we could take out the "by Mark Twain" part. It is up to you.

I'd prefer leaving out "By Mark Twain" if it's all the same with you. I think it's obvious who the author is, and it will certainly be stated in the summary.

I'm not sure just now how to set up the MW. Some of the chapters are very short and should be combined, while others will probably be divided into more than one section. Maybe I'll start with just one chapter per section and make adjustments. But if you think I should set it up at the get-go based on each chapter's page-count, I probably could do that. Your thoughts?

Gonna finish the other project before diving into the MW.

Adding things to the MW as you go along is fine with me. If we need to add or take away sections, that is not a problem. I think we can move on to Going Solo!

Here's Forward and Ch. 1. Wish I could sound a bit funnier. Have this rather serious voice. :(

Ann, please read the following out loud:

MOMENTS WITH MARK TWAIN, SELECTED BY ALBERT BIGELOW PAINE. THIS LIBRIVOX RECORDING IS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

That's a lot of "AINs" and sounds kinda weird to me. Do you think we might dispense with the middle part? If not, I'll manage to live with it. 8-)

I think Mark Twain would approve of a little humor coming from the rhyming! Maybe have the middle part in the first and second sections, then leave it out after that?
