The Woman in the Alcove by Anna Katharine Green (1864 - 1935).

Rita Van Arsdale falls in love and is proposed to by the gentleman Mr. Durand during a fancy high society party. She has landed the man of her dreams, but her wedding planning with Mr. Durand is interrupted by the beautiful Mrs. Fairbrother who is wearing a stunning diamond that attracts the attention of everyone at the party. During the course of the evening, a crime is committed and Rita’s fiance becomes the prime suspect. Rita must work to clear her fiance’s name through a series of twists and turns to discover what really occurred that night. Anna Katherine Green was one of the first American novelists to write detective fiction. Her stories are known for being well plotted and legally accurate.

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I realize this book has already been done as a group project, but I think it would be fun to do as a solo.

Chapters 1 and 2 are lovely.
Chapter 3 stops for me at 12:25 and not at the end. Could you try to reupload?

Try to download it again, Stav. I was able to download the whole file from the MW link, and it does have dialogue after the 12:25 make for me. Let me know whether it works for you or not.

ETA: I just want to say that, after listening to just a little bit, I can't wait until this one is done! I will definitely be downloading it!

It continued out of ahe blue after a very long time and I finished listening. It is lovely, but something is wrong with it- it was not supposed to stop. I don't know what to say.

Thank you for checking! I can’t figure out why it wasn’t working for Stav.

I’m so sorry you ran into an issue with the file. I am not sure why there was a problem :?
